I think they need to be reminded about 'Swayamvara' where they had the right to choose. They even had right to get their conditions fulfilled before selecting or rejecting them.

Anyone has the idea when 'Swayamvaram' came to an end? :(
In modern Hindu ceremonies also, bride offers her garland first. Then only bridegoom has the right to offer garland. It is just to make remembrance of the ancient custom

So that says it all, and in Muslim custom also, a marriage is not complete unless the girl accepts the proposal that their Kazi offers at the time of marriage..

In Christian marriages also, there is a custom, 'Manasammatham' some days before marriage. I don't know its word in English.

Unless they both say 'I do' the marriage is not complete. That means I accept the partner.

But decision to be made in 5 minutes. Really a bad idea :(

No this is not decision at this stage, this is final approval. They already courted for long enough.

I am saying, if arranged marriages, both boys and girls will have certain suggestions about educational back ground, work profile, appearance etc. Yet, they are not able to know about the character of the person. Am I right? If all other matters are OK, both girl and boy have to make the decision within 5 minutes itself, of their first actual meeting. But it will never help them to know about actual compatibility.

There is some period in between marriage ad engagement in such cases, one can always utilize that period to know each other well.
