I don't think there are any such politicians in India, if they were any such politicians then India would have been a developed country by now.
While people joining politics they are good but for the craze for money and power and publicity they get diverted and become corrupted.
"People do not mistake me i am a straight-forward person and i did not mean to hurt any one or any body, I just felt it so i said"

Gulzari Lal Nanda was acting Prime Minister and was home minister for a number of years. He died in poverty without building any assets. Lal Bahadur shastri was also dead honest. One forgotten perason is Comrade Ram Kishan, ex chidf Minister of Punjab. One day eminent writer Khushwant singh spotted him in a queue waiting for DTC bus at Delhi. Khushwant sing asked the ex chief minister why he did not hire a taxi. Ram Kishan told him that he had money enough only for travelling in a bus.
I think there is one person which in Atal Bihari Bajpayee but He is retire from politics so second is Manmohan singh is also good and honest but one honest person is not able to remove corruption if he will try then they will remove them so lot of other problem exist to remove corruption.
In our society generally the inefficient are honest. It needs to be active, efficient and alert to be dishonest. Moreover, the parliamentary elections are vaer costly, which prompts the elected politicians to recoup the investment made in ciontesting elections. Some political parties sell their tickets for elections. In these circumstances, honest politicinas cannot work. But still there are some honest and efficient politicians. some are P. Chidambaram, Arun Jeltli and Kapil Sibal. The politicians wh have some paying job besides politics alone can be honest. P. chidambaran, Jetli and Kapil Sibal earn enough from legal practice and so they need not resort to malpractice in politics.
It is very difficult to tell who is honest and who is not. For the most of the politicians "HONESTY IS THE WORST POLICY".They are the creatures who depict different behavior in pre-poll and post-poll. Once they get into power by hooks and crooks they start misusing it. But I feel NARENDRA MODI is the honest politician

I agree the names you have mentioned as honest politicians are the ones who have succeeded in maintaing a relatively clean public image. But as far as my position is concerned I am non-commital on this question given to my scanty knowledge about their activities. In this context, I remember a controversy surrounding Mr. Chidambaram when he was Finance Minister of the UPA Government when his wife was engaged as the counsel for the Income Tax Department. In India such is the state of affairs that until and unless some dishonest acts appear in the media,we tend to assume ones who are left out, are honest. That's also fallacious because a very small percentage of such cases, comes under media scrutiny!
About the sweeping generalization you have made that the dishonest ones are alert and efficient , I express my complete disagreement. I would just point to Late Satyendra Dubey murder case. This honest, young IIT product sacrificed his life trying to act as a whistle-blower in his attempt to expose the corruption in the form of looting of public money in National Highway Projects.

I have observed that some of the politicians who are not career politicians are the one who fare much better on this count. For example Arun Shourie, who was a cabinet minister in Bajpayee Government and among the current politicians,I admire Jairam Ramesh,Shashi Tharoor who established themeslves in their respective fields before joining politics. What do you think?
There is another aspect. In the pre-Independence era all our leading politicians were highly educated, some of them completed their masters reading in jails! Their commitment to idealism and honesty was due to their receiving true education. Thus most of the honest leaders belonged to that era!
Kumaresh- Although we can't be sure about any one's honesty, we should be satisfied if some body performs well and there are no serious allegations of corruption against him in courts of law. Legally speaking, everyone is innocent unless otherwise proved. By suspecting everyone, we shall be nowhere.
