Akbar is regarded as the best mughal emperor. his period was the golden period of Indian history. he supported the art,music,sculpture and other cultures.
I do not think that Akbar or any other Mughal king did anything for people. I may refer to Sher Shah Suri, who got constructed Grand Trunk Road and performed many people oriented projects.

Yes, Akbar was indeed a great emperor but in history he is well know for encouraging arts and culture. He has done one good thing by removing the taxes on hindu pilgrims who wanted to visit holy places. But even this rule was re-implemented by Auragzeb.
I think no mugal emperors have done anything constuctive in history. We can take King Ashok as an example as he have done good constuctive work after taking Buddhism.

I like Akbar because he ruled India with love and peace. He also concluded that all God are same and it is one. He has also protected India from invaders of Afganisthan.

the contributions and help given by Akbar and shahjahan to the various forms of art,sculpture,music and literature is enormous.
