They like their thumb to suck and it is comfortable to suck

Infants cannot move. So they can do anything with their own body parts only. So, they suck their own thumbs. When they grow up a bit and crawl, begin eating dust or anything else.

Well Divyani, I have a project in mind regarding the behavioral characteristics of babies or infants but somehow got stuck at this point. So far whatever data I collected regarding the same says that they enjoy sucking as a separate experience than feeding. They indulge themselves in such a behavior when they are basically tired, bored or in want of comfort or going through hunger.

Besides, it is also a fact that some of them can be comforted by using pacifier...!

kids have a sucking habit so they suck their thumb when they are hungry mostly to my knowledge. so if we take their finger and keep a feeder pin they will suck that.that is some psychological habit of kids. which continues till they become big. but our parents make us stop that habit while we are growing

As they have nothing to do they use to suck their thumbs for time pass.

The sucking of the thumb is happened from the mother womb.

The exact reason maybe habit like some people have a habit of biting everything. Similarly, some babies just keep on pulling their hair.

I too have the habit of sucking my thumb when i was infant itseem. :P but i really dont know why i use to do so :blink: no i feel that it is funny :lol:

Babies feel the urge to do something and as such sucking the thumb can be a way to express his urge. Tht's what I think.
