Dubai: A 13-year-old schoolgirl in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 90 lashes and two months in prison for carrying to her classroom a mobile phone equipped with a camera.

The girl, who has not been named, was sentenced to 90 lashes in front of her classmates followed by two months in detention.
A Saudi court pronounced the judgment after she was caught with a cell phone equipped with a camera. The gadget is banned in girls' schools in the country, Press TV reported on Thursday.

Corporal punishment is the law in most Arabian countries, Malasia and singapore. The girl and her guardians must be aware of the law of their land. The girl had to suffer the corporal punishment for fault of her prents/ guardians who allowed her to take cell phone with camera to school. The parents and guardinas should cooperate in maintaining discipline in schools. In our country, many adults as well as children use cell phones even while driving and cause accidents. Monetry and jail punishments do not deter. Corporal punishment in form of caning or lashing is necessary. However, the punishment should not be very harsh.

This is too much.. Sentenced 90 lashes just for carrying cellphone. It is ridiculous.

A lash is a blow with a whip, especially a blow on someone's back as a punishment.
whip u knw chaabuk
Carrying cellphone with camera may be small thing in India and punishment by lashing severe. But we cannot judge others by our standards. Lashing on back or bottoms for offenses is the norm in middle east, singapore and Malayasia. We cannot curb accidents and other mishappenings because discipline is not possible without corporal punishment like caning or whipping. However, ninety lashes appears too severe. But this is an internal matter of Saudi Arabia, ho will abide by their own law and not by what we think.

yes may be u are right . but 100 lashes is enough for just carrying cellphone. and 2 months detention also .
As we are not aware of exact legal position in Saudi Arabia, it is not possible to comment on the quantun of punishment. The Saudi arabian Court would have pronounced punishment according to law.

yahhh right . i appreciate for this that Saudi Arab give first preference to the law rather than just be kind or emotional towards whether a child or lady.......
Kumar, rohit you both are right don't fight.

If we think about the punishment for simply carrying cell phone that to for a lady its a bad thing.

Same we dont know about that country if some one not follow the law may be they will give severe punishment.

You both are right, now in india , somany colleges banned cell phones but how many students are following the rule.Without knowingly every one is taking their mobiles to colleges.

Giving punishment is good but in severe is a bad thing.
hey radhika its not fight its just views and argugumnts are there of each .as its in GD
Right Rohit- We only discuss things and never fight. Such discussions give us each other views and our outlook gets widened. Let me add her the difference between Middle East and our system. We follow the modern western system which is more humane and democratic. In our country also, there was punishment by whipping and trampling under elephant foot in ancient times. Now we have changed.
