The UPA government headed by Dr.Manmohan Singh has once again gone in for a cabinet reshuffle and this time too this exercise is devoid of any purpose. It's more of musical chair contest!!It seems the PM has carried out the wishes of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi which should be the sole prerogative of a PM!!

It's a good idea of cabinet reshuffling, it should be done every 3 months to avoid corruption to some extend
The prerogative of Prime minister worked before coalition era when Prime Minister was really tallest figure. Later coalition politics reduced Prime ministerial authority. Besides coalition partners, other extra constitutional authorities also exercised influence. The National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi is also a superficially created authority undermining Prime ministerial authority. As regards Prime Minister's prerogative, the less said the better.
THis reshuffling should be done frequently to prevent rooting of corruption.
I simply can't understand how frequent reshuffle can prevent corruption! A corrupt minister would always remain corrupt unless dropped from the cabinet!
Anything and everything happens and can happen in India only. The latest cabinet reshuffle is a part of it. Lets see what more happens in future?
Frequent reshuffling or even change of ministers may not remove corruption but end responsibility. If no one is in a job for more than three months, none can be held responsible for anything.
It is mostly done just to shut the mouth of those raising their voices about the under productivity and mistakes of the UPA govt.If bomb blast takes place leading to high death toll, the defense and home ministers are held responsible and just to avoid the outrage, they are asked to resign.
this is really a goos news for us and must take in a real interval.
Reshuffling should be done only in case of acute necessity. As Gulshan ji pointed out i also hold the view that frequent reshuffle will only distract a good minister from doing effective things but the question is how many good ministers we have at the moment?
When we were being taught about NULL SET in our 8th standard, a student cited an example saying "A set of good teachers in our school."I am afraid the answer may be something like that.
I think what Dr. Manmohan Singh - an otherwise venerable and erudite person - has been repeatedly ignoring is the purpose behind a reshuffle. It's all about providing dynamism and qualitative filip to governance. Sadly he has been using it a balancing trick to keep his diverse flock together!
Some lost place and some new faces also came in.But some had got change within 6 months!!!
I agree that this is a very futile and pointless exercise! To me it seems more like a ploy to throw dust into peoples' eyes to distract them from the more serious issues of corruption in government and the threat of terrorism. Otherwise, there is absolutely no fruitful purpose that can be achieved by such frequent shuffling.
Your views are correct,Kalyani! Particularly Jayram Romesh's shift from environment ministry is a case in point! He has been kicked upstairs with a cabinet rank!
