Yes, I think they are helping the needy persons.They can't be fool the public for Rs one crore or fifty lacs which is very small amount for them. After all, they get tax exemption also.

Yes, these shows are meant for charity and the organizers make sure that the proceeds are put to the purposes which they declare!
