This is a matter of custom. As long as the bride is honored and loved in her inlaws house and treated well, all is okay. Customarily, name is changed by inlaws. She retains both names- one in her parents' and other inlaws. Surname is usually changed.

Changing a name after marriage has been very common from years on. As long as it is religious, customary and the bride don't mind it is fair....After all what is there in a name it is the person that matters...
According to me,the name kept by our parents and elders should not be changed. This is my opinion.
I mean changing names has been very common now-a-days and sometime people themselves want to change their names and in that case it seems ok but when it comes to the situation of forcing a name change I am against the idea and take it as something as very ugly...
Personally, I do not favor change of names, signatures or rather anything that affects identity. For this reason, I also do not favor changing Avatar on the site.

Any man and woman is identified by name. Change of name dilutes identity. But women's name, particularly last name is customarily changed. This is hence acceptable. Here also many women change name/ surname only for inlaws home and retain their maiden name with employer and parents' home.

Adding husband's name or surname is ok, but changing the name given by our parents just because they dont like, is not right
