The elections to state assemblies in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Pudducherry U.T. are being held. Now poll surneys forecasting outcome of elections will be conducted.
How far these surveys affect fair polls?. Do these not wrongly influence fair and independent decisions of voters? Let us consider whether poll surveys should be banned

Needless to say, poll survey affects polling. many voters tend to follow others. If such voters are made to believe that a particular party will win, they will vote accordingly. Hence, poll survey should be banned. These may be okay in western countries but not in India where people have herd mentality.
I am against publication of the results of these kinds of survey when the entire process is on.These suvey organizations adopt unscientific methodologies and arrive at conclusions which were proved many a time wrong and carry the potential danger to interfere with free and fair poll!
But I think the exit polls are banned in India. When something is banned some loop holes will be there to overcome the ban.
Banning of exit polls should not be protected for fear of loopholes. Then, other offenders also will be protected as loopholes can always be discovered. Misusing loopholes and plugging these is constant process.
Once we agree that exit polls interfere with free and fair polls, these should be banned.
