In colleges and school,if it is a valentines's day celebration atleast 95 percentage of students will be present. They will exchange flowers, share greeting.Sometimes there will be games and even a dress code..but in case of August 15 just the opposite is seen..Everyone will consider it as a holiday and will sit at home.Majority are not at all interested in celebrating independence day and they wont be present even for the flag hoist!
One more interesting fact is that, if the V day is on Sunday, they will arrange the celebration on Saturday or Monday..on the other hand, if the I day is on Monday they will take it as a Sunday!!

Do you think this is the case everywhere?.Why is this mentality? why youth lack commitment to nation. Is it because of westernization or is it a failure of our educational system.?

Independence day is a national function and the entire nation celebrates it. Any other festival is not comparable. Valentine day is gaining popularity. But this is not comparable to any national function like Independence Day. Our life consists of national, community and personal matters. Celebration of valentine day does not indicate lack of national feelings.

Yes youth really celebrate valentine day far more than independence day, Diwali, and other Indian festivals.

This is nothing except copying western culture...

One of my friends went to his father with a rose and wishing him Happy Valentine day... His father, a Professor of physics just could not respond to the advances of his son... he was just caught unawares...

My friend was shocked to see his displeasure...

Indian equivalent of Valentine day is 'Vasant Panchami'...

Many do not know about it and the ones who know, they just do not celebrate because they do not want to be branded as non-modern...

Comparing with independence day with english festival is one type of disobey to our country so i think you do not try to make this type of comparison that can be heart by any Indian .
