I have lived in this area for long enough to know its strange but wonderful traditions. Widow ladies from far off WB who stay there as their family members abandon them in Brindavan temples celebrated holi for the first time in 600 years.
Wonderful opportunity for the widow ladies. Its their time to celebrate.

Yes, WB people leave their women in temples in far off places with their heads shaven and wearing nothing but a white saree. The temples in Varanasi, Hardwar and Mathura area are full with such women who pass their time weeping and remembering their family members.

This is so cruel. This is almost like Sati. In sati, women die. Here again women lives without any happiness or hope in their lives.

Sati system was abolished thanks to Raja Ram Mohan Roy. But the mindset of people did not change. So widows wee not burnt but banished.to places like Vrindvan. At Vrindavan, the widows earn small amount by singing hymns.

I believed this attitude was gone a way back in 1829 after sati was abolished. But this still persists.
This attitude of people should change. They are also human beings. They should be treated alike.

Good to know this that means things are improving in India and we are breaking all those superstitions and prejudices which is like a hurdle in the development of our nation. :)
Yes almost 600 widow ladies gathered in a temple and played floral Holi yesterday.
Good to hear such breakaways from the superstitious traditions.
