Women in army is not entirely new phenomenon. We have a tradition of women fighters. Rani Jhansi and Chand Bai of Bijapur are well known. But in modern army, women are employed in non combat positions. The Indian army has women officers in medical and nursing services. More services may be offered to women in due course.

The American Army is opening door for women in combat forces. Women soldiers will fight like male soldiers and also run the risk of arrest or capture by enemy with all consequences. There will be no relaxation in physical standard. Women soldiers must be as strong as their men counterparts. Apparently, Indian army and Indian society are incapable of allowing women in combat role like men. This is not because women are incapable. This is because society is incapable owing to double standards on morality, chastity and so called 'honor' linked to female chastity.

If women are fighting for an equal status in every other field then what is small risk of being captured by enemy. After all what have they to loose? If they are afraid of their so called chastity then they should stay away from army where they already are at the risk of same results. itt is no excuse for keeping them from field duties.

Really, parents and their spouses will not permit to join combat forces and directly fight with enemy. It is the social double standard on chastity that debar women from many opportunities.

yes, I agree
if women are willing to take risks associated with it, then it's warm welcome.
Soldiers mean brave persons who have a strong mental power along with physical strength.
so, it solely depends on a woman's decision to think, if she is capable for the post or not

Dual standards and dual tongued talk are as old as our tradition itself. Manu Dharma Shastra is a treatise on double standards. And we are the inheritors of that legacy
Although smaller in number I see quite a few women in the army and also in the police force these days.....They are even taking up shipping jobs these days where they need to be away from home for a few months at a stretch in the company of mostly males..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Women in army - It mainly deals with the mindset and physical fitness as well. I personally feel that north indian woman can excel in army, not the south indians. South indian women have all other talents. Each and every south indian women is the best home minister.

Born to express, not to impress.

I hope you will understand all males are not alike. Many are good companion- not less than brothers. Every male is not molester and raper.

Of course that's exactly what I am saying, that women are now confident about themselves and are venturing out even on those jobs that were earlier considered taboo, which according to me is a positive development...

Women are themselves responsible for their own condition as most women try to suppress women who try to act brave or face situation. You can see this is mostly women who criticize and demoralize women from taking bold decisions. They want them to stay confined with in four walls of house feeling they are safe in there. Very few women encourage women to come forward and face world on equal terms.

Indian army has recruited women in millitary as major, captain and other posts. I have read few years back that a team of woman soldiers attacked terrorists in Kashmir and won the battle. Women are recruited in BSF, navy and air force also. In 2012 the republic day parade, a woman pilot has shown stunts in the air.
