Yes, yoga is really good and there are no side effect of it. Consistency is very important. We have to be regular in doing yoga. I am doing this regularly and feeling good.
We don't need any guru, but we should see some expert person, before doing yoga. Yoga is done with some process. I mean some steps we need to follow.
There are very good videos available in You tube. Watch them
