Khadi was a fad of Mahatama Gandhi. The Khadi weavers are today in miserable condition and getting no more than Rs. 30-40 per day.
It is okay to follow Gandhian ideas of simplicity and self sufficiency. But if we follow him mechanically without moving with time, we are ruined. The Khadi weavers need to learn this. Now many things, like old style pen, type writer, steam engine are out of date. May be similarly, Khadi is out of date.
We should encourage the khadi workers with the help of government.Government should take the responsibility for the khadi workers.
The Government encourage Khadi. KVIC (kahadi and village Industries Commission) helps Khadi and other village industries. But, there is no need to artificially support any fad. If khadi is not popular, there is no need to encourage this. Those in Khadi job should be encouraged to enter other jobs which are more attractive.
