No doubt it is a social malaise, and in such cases, even stringent laws could not remove such practices, it needs further reform of mind and heart to do away with such effects.

These practices have gone deep into the society. Such practices take time to get into the mainstream.

The issue is really that Hindu religion is intrinsically inhuman.  The brahmins emerged from mouth, Khtriya from arms, Vaishya from stomaqch and shudra from feet of Brahma. So ho can the upper caste women tolerate even shadow of Dalit.  Theis is precisly the reasosn why lower castes are tempted to convert to other religions.  The Hindu way of life is obviously ant human and anti depressed people.

Untouchabilty is a curse of India that still exists deeply enrooted in human minds. These people demand that they are the higher caste, but they have degraded to the lowermost level of humanity and that is why they hate even the shadows of lower caste people.

And we talk about progress and development. In A nation where such mean and heinous crimes take place against the humans can never progress.

This is strange people are still living in 18th century. I think education is what can change mind of such people.

I agree with you. only education can bring knowledge to this primitive people.

Thankfully, such cases are not possible in our areas where this will lead to lynching of offenders by the suffering group immediately, this way or that way. There is no such possibility in my part of the country.

It means people in your region are educated and emancipated . You should be proud of your area. The incidents said in the post mainly happened in Rural and far off places. Those happenings are happening in my state's rural regions also. If the nation wants to progress as dreamed by the present rulers, the entire nation should be free frm such happenings.

Witnessing the untouchability scenes in Kerala, Swami Vivekananda said, Kerala was a ‘Lunatic Asylum’.  More than 100 years have passed since then. We are now educated and well advanced in science and technology; and our space vehicle has reached Mars orbit. It is pity that such ‘Lunatic Asylums’ still exist in different parts of the country performing dirty shadow dance in the name of caste.

@Ramakrihnan, unless these "Lunatic asylums" are destroyed and demolished, the "Untouchability " monster wiill demolish the country itself.

What I have personally observed these trends in higher amounts in teens as they are feeling the pressure of education and career and most of them have talked about reservation system as perhaps this could have the real boundary that has been permanently bracketed both societies.

Where from these trends do you think these trends have come.? They are from the elders. And these trends were deeply rooted in the society.

It is continuing and doing so still the mirage of trends of reservation continues, there is no way out even these teens grow older these are now implanted since their career stage,

Thee trends should be curbed if India wants to see real development. Otherwise India remains as a backward nation forever.

Untouchability is a direct follow up of the caste system, which is the bedrock of Hindu  religion. Right from  the Gita to Gandhi have extolled the virtues of  caste and untouchability will vanish only if the caste goes, but if it was not done in 4000 years , how will it ever go away ? perhaps never?

There is a need for the UN to intervene like it did in the case of Apartheid in South Africa. But as India is the only Hindu country in world, the world is not bothered, but a reaction will be conversion and that is happening.

Well said. We boast a lot about Vedas where they are born which said, "Serving Humanity is higher than Divinity." And what we do in our day to day lives? Quite opposite. What a hypocrisy !!!

Without any intervention of UNO, if we stick to our ancient seers what they had been telling  there can't be any noble deed than this. Demolish the heinous crimes of Untouchability at once.

I do not think UN intervention will going to solve this issue and why should it intervene in democracy, where as in SA it is oppression going on. I mentioned the reservations and deep rooted in society these issues would not be solved for sure as it continues to stay in limelight due to such issues.

Deep rooted beliefs and customs as prevailing in tradition bound countries like India, it is difficult to eradicate such societal evils.

It is only through education and enlightenment that we can bring in any social changes...There has been  changes but not enough, goes to show that some very strict measures should be taken by the authorities against any caste based atrocities..
