I agree with you because I have seen how lightly some students take their studies, knowing perfectly well that they will be promoted to the next class no matter how bad their results are. However, there's a flip side that If the examination marking Is strict, there will be more drop outs, more pressure leading to suicides, running away from home etc..and children do take such extreme steps. One can argue that at least we will have an educated society..whatever little they learn because no matter what you do, kids who are serious about studies will learn In any case and those not interested will atlest attend school If not study..and indirectly In remote areas It may stop child labour
In the long run does it really matter to have children who have gone to school just for the fun of it ? Child labor is in fact encouraged by the parents themselves and they will give preference to monetary gains rather than send the child to school. I am sure there are a few advantages but the disadvantages outnumber them easily. I have seen in my own school how everybody , the students and teachers are taking it easy , because they have no exam worries. As a result when the child goes to 9th standard he or she is not able to cope with the sudden pressure. Then starts the cycle of tuition and extra coaching ..

The only advantage this particular policy has is bringing more children ( probably) into classrooms , other than that what the advisory board argues is right because it does lower the standards because the students don't need to work hard which is very essential during those formative years. I am all for scrapping the policy because it does not do any good for our education system and there are other ways of encouraging children to attend school !

Lopamudra created new topic Should the 'No detention policy' be scrapped?.
The Central Advisory Board has suggested the removal of the 'No detention policy' till class 8 which was implemented earlier based RTE or right to education for all. It is argued that the policy had lowered the standard of learning amongst the students. Is it a move in the wrong direction?

rambabu replied to the topic What qualifies as luxury? And no, it isn't about money.
The luxuries always need not be related with money. Having a good health is a luxury that can be earned not by spending Millions. To have good health one need to strive by changing a few life style habits. This requires no capital investment. For these luxuries one need not invest money. Your only investment is a strong will.

rambabu replied to the topic Why learning Hindi is easier than Sanskrit .
Sanskrit is said to be the Mother of all languages.
Here is an interesting article about the Sanskrit language. It may not be in vogue now. But it's greatness remains for ever.

Everything that is available in excess than its normal requirement is a luxury. Both the beggar and king can experience luxury; it varies in its intensity but not of its kind.

Most of the valuable ancient literatures, both oral and written, of our great India which we are proud of were in Sanskrit language. May be Sanskrit will not earn us money; it has no utility in the present world; and may be the grammar is tougher; …..but I think it is the most beautiful language in the world. (And of course it depends on the concept of beauty of each individual).

rambabu replied to the topic Government plans to ban junk food near schools..
Counseling by parents and teachers on the ill effects of junk food would be more effective. The children should be given such a food in the home, the child will never turn his face towards Junk food, even if there is a junk food outlet before the school. Another good thing would be children should not be given pocket money. Even if pocket money is given, the child should account his expenses. Children if they save the money, parents should open an account in the children savings account in a Bank.

Counselling by parents ad teachers will go a long way in keeping children away from junk food. However keeping selling shops away from schools also helps in a small way.

Today Sanskrit is only used by "Pundit" during marriages. Once it was the mother tongue of India, but with time and due to different rulers in India like Mughals and Britishers, languages has changed and our mother tongue is Hindi.
