It is time that is omnipresent ! Peter Brook made Mahabharat into a film and I had the opportunity of watching it..The interesting thing is that he has used actors belonging to different  races .So, initially your mind gets confused because of the stereotype images we have in our mind but on the whole it is a very interesting film http://www.nytimes.com/1985/08/25/arts/peter-brook-transforms-an-indian-epic-for-the-stage.html

That is so true Usha, We change and move ahead for the better. Why turn back. I am glad you brought up the example of school friends. My experience was similar.. I couldn't relate to most of the conversations happening there, most of them were so caught up in their own achievements of those of their children.. I was lost in that crowd.  My life is simple and I am happy.. that is what matters to me at the end of the day.

I look forward not backward, I dream about the future not the past that is lost. I revel in the present enjoying everyday as it comes. I live my life each day.  Same here, I would never want to go back simply because things have changed so much,, I too have changed as a person. I ha this very strange experience a few years ago when I reconnected with some of my school friends on Face Book and we decided to meet and I realised that other than a few things that we all remembered there was not much common interest...We are in touch no doubt but not like it was during school days when we would be together and share everything. People change with time and there is no point in looking back..

If the society expresses its consciousness forcefully govts will have to respond and ban the advts.

The language of urban India is increasingly English and rural India it is their native language.

It is surprising why the govt. does not ban them instead of wasting its energy on banning meat etc. I once saw a discussion on a TV channel where the advt. expert Padamsee was justifying the promotion of whitening creams. His arguments were unconvincing but he was influencing the viewers. How can they ban such commercials when there is so much money to be earned?? If you notice, all those commercials are for products manufactured by MNCs which must be paying enormous amounts of money to the government in various taxes! And their justification coming from the likes of Padamsee are really not encouraging! They go purely by the demands of the society and unless it is legally banned, they will continue to defend their products.A few days back I came across an article where it was mentioned that a couple of actresses have decided not to act in fairness cream commercials which I feel is good. But there are huundreds of others who would go for the money !

Kalyani Nandurkar wrote: Most of the times I am at peace with myself and my surroundings, but like many have voiced here, the feeling of peace is not permanent as it can be disrupted by many things and incidents. But generally speaking, I am mostly content with my dreams, what I have achieved and what I want for my family, so yes, I am at peace ! Inner peace can be disrupted/changed as change is the only permanent state.. But being able to find ones equilibrium through it all is inner peace.  Often people mistake achievements to bring peace. It is not the destination but the journey itself.. the journey of life  that should be peaceful. It is the  being not the doing. We are busy bodies doing all the time.. instead of being what we ought to be.

A few things are unclear to me as well, I am hoping that more announcements will be made once everything is finalised..for instance, will the points for articles be reintroduced ? and if not just forums and question/answers what other activities ?

Thank you @ Kalyani.. After writing I was also surprised at how could I express in such words. Perhaps these were my own experiences coming out.

Except for a small percentage of people living in metros and two tier cities, vast majority of the people still use their native language to communicate. They may not bother to learn any other language unless there is a need to do so..Not many educated people can speak English because they study in their local language and may study English as a second language which knowledge would not be sufficient for them to be fluent ! So for all practical purpose they use their own language more than any other language !

It is a plea when one is desperate, it is a thanksgiving when one achieves, it is hope when one is trying, it is a bargain when one is uncertain, it is a contract when one is taking a risk and it is a homecoming when one's time has come. That is the best description of what prayer really is so far I have come across!

Elderly persons invariably carry their regular or anticipated medicines in their bags - just in case.

Definitely. aversion to Black especially deeply rooted in our society. This kind of belief has to be changed in the society. Of course, I have seen some rare matrimonial ads where there is a clause, "Caste and color no bar. "

vijay wrote: But  Kalyani , while I appreciate your views of a young generation  , it is not getting reflected in matrimonial advts. where no one says they want a black girl but everyone wants a fair bride. Perhaps more time is needed,    I totally agree, but then it is also the fact that many many weddings happen where both the bride and the groom are not fastidious about looks or complexion. As of now, I think the advertisers of beauty products are to blame from projecting that only the people with fair complexion are smart, intelligent, get ahead in life etc. But in real life, I am seeing the exceptions more than ever before. And yes of course, as you say, more time is still needed to change the widespread outlook!
