It is not right to blame the govt. entirely for grain wastage. In order to help the farmers and sustain the price he gets invariably govt. ends up by buying more than it can store. If it will not buy more then private traders will exploit the situation and fleece the farmer by paying low prices. It has become a fashion to blame govt. for everything. In all countries including America poor people exist. It is sad but a reality. Charitable organisations exist everywhere to help these unfortunate persons. I dare say that we Indians condemn , condemn and condemn all the time but rarely help. Therefore such isolated but laudable acts appear great to us.

All governments are weak. Even rational court decisions are negated by them for fear of losing votes. The lust for staying in power for some more time is higher than cleansing the ills of society for ever.

Gandhiji used the weapons of non violence and non cooperation against foreign government to attain independence. Presently, thesewapons are of no use. These weapons cannot be used against foreign aggressors, terrorists and other criminals.

It may require some talk with the community and hold a strong discussion highlighting merits and demerits of it and then pronounce the judgement. Mental preparation is very important in this case and forceful application is not fair. Any interested partis can make representation before court on the issue. Court listens to all and decides on merit and according to constitution and law.  It is none of court's business to yield to any pressure. It isfor government to implement court decision. Ifnecessary, govt can get the law changed. If govt. fears so much from irrational and whimsical religious priests- may be of any community, they can change law. Let them provide that santhara is not suicide and anyone encouraging this is not offenderof abetting suicide.

Gulshan Kumar Ajmani said thank you to usha manohar for his/her reply to the topic It is Salvation or Suicide.
When it is matter of faith and belief it is Salvation ! It is like any other religion where belief becomes the predominant factor and sense and sensibilities take a back seat ..

A day to remember the two great leaders of the nation. A day also for  looking back at the struggle,  contributions and sacrifice of such leaders In nation building. This should also be a day for introspection to check If we have really done our bit In whatever way possible to make India what Gandhiji and Shastri ji had dreamt of!

The others in the community are guilty of  encoutaging suicide. Yes you are right, but one lady done santhara after declaring it suicide by the court, in Bikaner.  This happens. all crimes occur even when people know these are wrong.  Santhara is akin to sati system that was abolished by Raja Ram Mohan's efforts.   It is some differ, Sati system was practise when husband died and it had no link with age. Santhra is practise even husband is alive and by the old ones.

People don't like and interferance is religious matters. But court was ordered on the basis on law. Our constitution does not allow desire death. If courts allowed santhara that some people demand to validate Jal samadhi.
