Leaving it to states is a good idea worth considering. Sentiments of one group should not decide.

I feel that it is best to leave it with the states to either ban or not depending on what the majority of the people want since we have an inequal distribution of population ( beef eaters ) in different states .

The very fact that the previous government never bothered to disclose any information about Netaji for all these years , shows that they felt the need to hide , for reasons best known to them ! I guess it is now too late to go for any fact finding other than be satisfied with  what is already available

The Celebrities who have turned vegetarian can afford to do so because they have enough resources at hand to take care of their dietary needs.. However, It is good to have a blend of vegetarian and non vegetarian food if possible or else use more milk products , pulses and nuts for protein requirements !

Among the beef eaters in India the majority are Muslims , almost 50 -60% of the muslim population and then come the Christians and Hindus are next. Only 2% of Hindus eat beef although going by the numbers they may be more than Christians , so the argument that majority of the low caste Hindus eat beef is not true.. http://www.livemint.com/Politics/RhPVLUFmclIDWRIiSoTC7N/Who-are-the-beef-eaters-in-India.html

usha manohar answered the question What makes you good?.
I doubt if anyone is good ll the time but we all have some good points and some bad or negative points in us. Personally speaking, my good point is that I would never forget a good turn done to me by others , however small or insignificant it may be and I try to help out as and when I can ..

No amount of wind or gales or Blizzard can change the Vedas and Vedic practices of Hinduism. It has survived for centuries and continue to survive for ever in this land Hindus.

There are truths which at times warrant proof. But there are Axioms which do not need proofs, Akin to this Congress party is the breeding ground for Vote Bank Politics. Every citizen of this country knows about Vote Bank politics of Congress.Even now it has no idea why it has been unceremoniously Kicked out of Power.  The BJP has been elected. Despite its many futile attempts to stage a comeback its a an exercise in futility. Now the Congress's position is well defined, outside the gates of Parliament.

Cow slaughter should be banned in India. It has a strong link with Hindus and their sentiments. Where else cow slaughter can be banned if not in Hindustan, the Home of Hindus ?

It is a misconception that most people need to eat meat  to consume enough proteins. Beans, Spinach. legumes, Soybeans are said to be powerhouses of Proteins. Yes you need not go for  Almonds. Additionally many world famous athletes like Serena Williams, Mike Tyson, Billie Jen King and our own late  Master Chandgi Ram  are vegetarians

In the year 2003, the National Commission on cattle under justice G.M Lodha submitted to the NDA government. The report said clearly said  stringent laws should be implemented i order to protect Cow in the interests of rural economy. During the first war of independence in 1857, Bahadur Shah was installed as emperor by the Hindus in Delhi. His Hindu Prime Minister, on the proclamation of the Emperor Cow Killing as a  Capital offense. Unfortunately in the present days, we are witnessing cows are being neglected and left in the streets leading to Road accidents. These pathetic conditions are to removed first by the Present Government. Here is an interesting article by Subramanian Swamy. http://www.stephen-knapp.com/importance_of_the_cow_in_vedic_culture.htm Yes it is true that Bahadur shah Zafar had banned cow slaughter. Even earlier there was a selective ban on cow slaughtre during reign of Akbar and Shah Jahan. If these Muslim rulers could look after their hindu subjects, I see no reason why cow slaughter cannot be banned in india.

No vegetable can give protein. One can get protein from pulses an nuts. Nuts like almonds are very costly an poor cannot afford

Getting bashed up for expressing one's views is tolerance. Targeting specific communities before every election is tolerance. Calling Dalits all sort of derogatory names and maltreating them is tolerance.

We were not tolerant but were disunited and did not change our hateful attitude towards bulk of Hindus the lower castes something we practice today also. Upper cast in minority Hindus do not want beef to be eaten by majority lower cast Hindus. Our rigidity is Hinduism's weakness. Who wull strengthen it, the one's who want Vedic practices or the ones who want winds of change to blow across Hinduism?

Bans are ineffective still some want it.
