Good teachers are there certainly. Unfortunately they are being outnumbered by the teachers ( Should i call them Cheaters) whose aim and life's ambition is making money by hook or crook. Some Famous teachers like Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Dr. Kalam, Rabindranath Tagore made us proud for their exemplary contributions to the society in large and students in particular.

Yeah, peer pressure is another big hindrance once the children reach an impressionable age and are more concerned about their own image for their peers. But what I feel is that once we inculcate certain hobbies and habits from the beginning itself, then it does not become such a great problem. I have made it a point to inculcate reading habit in my son and always refrained myself from using phones in his presence other than making necessary calls. Also when I work on my computer I keep stressing to him that computer is only for work and only a certain time limit is allowed for watching cartoon clips on it. He is now so much hooked on reading and creating things out of cardboard paper etc. that he is not at all interested in phones. He also likes to use computer only when he wants to do his own 'research' as he calls it on things such as aliens which he likes! So it actually is up to parents where usage or overusage of gadgets is concerned.

True Kalyani. Peer pressure will not be a problem for those parents who inculcate good habits right from the child's formative years. As you said, once these habits are planted in the child's mind, things will take place of their own accord.

A very good account on the Moral code of Lawyers. In fact all professions have moral codes to be adhered to. But there are exceptions too.Offenders find the loop holes in the moral code and utilize them for their advantage.
For example, i can quote a case, wherein the Law minister of Delhi was found guilty of tampering the evidence.

Curiosity does open our minds to wider range of subjects, I agree.
Is there a way to present it in point format. It doesn't seem to work on the start a discussion box, though it works fine here.
Did you mean you wanted to present your discussion in that format? If you find I did not do the job according to your choice I will amend it the way you ask me to do that.

By the way I am Shampa Sadhya and not Sandhya. My opinion is that if the lawyers know that the person is a hardcore criminal then they must refuse to fight their case. Well, as you or many other has explained in this thread even I too know the rule that every client must get a lawyer but I am not thinking on legal terms rather on social responsibility. You said if lawyers take my advice then many innocents will be punished but I said the lawyers must learn to refuse the criminals because they can make out who is guilty as the clients are supposed to keep no secrets from their lawyers.
Your sentiments can be easily understood, when something like the Nirbhaya case happens, we all feel the same but like each profession, the lawyers too have an obligation. Just like the doctors are obligated by the ethics and morality of their profession to treat each and every patient equally and fairly, so is the judicial system obligated to treat each person, be it a known criminal or a mere suspect to consider him innocent until proven guilty. And for that matter, the lawyers who are bound to their profession the day they don their silks, cannot refuse any person a chance to a fair trial. so we really cannot blame them for taking up such cases. What we need to abhor are the lawyers who fabricate damaging lies to destroy someone's life on behalf of their clients.

There are a few cases where lawyers refused to take up cases of hard core criminals. But that kind of moral values you find in very less number of lawyers.
It is not a case of moral values but a question of being professional...I am quoting what I posted earlier..
In fact if no lawyer is forthcoming to take on the case of a hardened criminal , the court normally appoints one to defend him because the law says he is innocent until proven guilty. We have had cases in our country where a few people were in prison for 30 years and were let out because there was either no evidence or because they were found innocent after some hidden evidence came into light ! So everybody is entitled to a defence even if the case is water tight like it was in the case of Nirbhaya...

Your explanation is truly meaningful. The teachers should satiate the quest of knowledge or else students will loose their interest which is never a positive sign. Well, it is not always that reservation is the criterion, sometimes it's the attitude of the teacher which comes in between the students and the teacher. Some teachers are very arrogant and proud which never allow them to understand their student deeply.
I agree Shampa that reservation is not the basic criterion, but we have to admit that ever since the reservation came to existence, the profession of teachers has become all about earning money and profit like all other professions, of course, with exceptions and with due respect to the teachers who are true and pure of heart towards their profession, such as Usha, yourself, Vijay are! And the example of one rotten apple spoiling others holds true for this particular facet as well. Only because we keep hearing of increased incidences of teachers raping and abusing students.,beating them severely and causing permanent damage or sometimes even death, but cannot but shudder and it changes the attitude of looking towards the teacher as a whole.
Also, it is not just one factor that is the cause, there are too many things at work. Growing materialism, more importance to money, lack of empathy and sensitivity towards others etc. so we cannot blame only one single factor at any given time.,

Yes change is the only permanent thing in life. But change for the good, parents need to be involved in the change of their children, we cannot absolve ourselves saying changes happen.
Instill in them the values for life so that even in a changing world they adapt with their values intact.
I agree that giving and receiving respect may not happen with all teachers and all youngsters , it depends on individuals . As far as consuming liquor is concerned, here in Mangalore we make wine at home and toddy tapping is done at my ancestral home so it is always there, the children dont get enamored by it. We all do have a glass or two of wine on occasions but none of us ,including my children drink on a regular basis and don't smoke at all. I feel being anti social is far worse and I could never tolerate that in my children or others .In fact, my children are very conscious about their civic duties and responsibilities and would never take a short cut . Having said that none of us is perfect and we can only learn from our past mistakes .
