Kalyani Nandurkar wrote: Quite a beautiful and a clear picture. Yes yesterday you were telling about Mahalakshmi pooja. Though we do not observe this in AP, there are temples known as " Lakshmi Ganapati " temples. " Lakshmi Ganapati " temples are not seen in Maharashtra, we have Laxmi-Narayan temples. The concept of Mahalaxmi Pooja during Ganpati festivals is that, they are the daughters of our home who come to visit their parents for three days. The kind of pooja and rituals may differ slightly from home to home but the basic concept is same. There is one Laksmi Ganapati temple in the next street of my residence. The temple is always filled with devotees. Of course. we too have Lakshmi Narayana temples. There are separate pilgrimages too.

I agree, the meaning also lies in how it gets assimilated y the person, right ? Some go just by what is written but a more intelligent person might try to connect it to different things in life.. Even a small piece of information that may seem unimportant to others would be used to its maximum advantage by an intelligent person , or is that being street smart ? I would call that being a wise person for a well-read person can be an intelligent person or vice versa, but a person who is neither well-read nor intelligent but is able to take wise decisions according to his or own experiences and is able to act accordingly is much better than the aforementioned categories. A well read person may or may not be able to put into application what he has learned or read in books and an intelligent person may not possess the wisdom to be able to connect the dots, as you have put forth in your post. So what matters, according to me is, wisdom to apply things and process intelligence as more important.

RAMAKRISHNAN. A wrote:Knowledge and intelligence are co-related. An intelligent person is one who has knowledge of almost everything in life and he has the ability to think and apply his knowledge with discretion. But what is knowledge? It is an awareness acquired through experience. Reading gives you information; not knowledge. A well-read person fills his brain with all sorts of information and converts it into an infinite library of the universe. Information is the theoretical part. Real knowledge is practical, which can be attained only through experience. Reading no doubt gives you information but an intelligent person is able to absorb and gain knowledge out of it ,use it to his advantage. I agree that there is no use of having any amount of knowledge and intelligence, if not used for practical purpose to better oneself in life ..

Being a Muslim artiste  did not in any way hinder M F Hussain in his growth as an artiste of repute within India. In fact, along with all the accolades he received , he was also given a free 4000 sq ft plot by the Karnataka government  under the artistes quota ,in the upmarket Koramangala area where he built a palatial house , which has been now sold for a very high price to a hotelier, thereby making his children self sufficient ! The major problem with his paintings was the way he depicted Hindu Goddesses and people  – ‘Durga in a sexual union with a tiger’ , 'Goddess Lakshmi naked on Ganesha’s head', Naked Sita, Naked Draupadi, Naked Parvati , Naked Bhartmata , Naked Brahmin with a fully clothed Muslim King. Now , compare these with his other paintings - Fully clothed Mother Teresa, His daughter Fully clothed, His mother fully clothed, Muslim poets and Muslim ladies fully clothed. One wonders what exactly was he trying to prove ? did his artistic expression and imagination work overtime while depicting Hindu dieties or is that how he imagined them? I have always wondered about these contradictions in him as an artiste and private individual who from all accounts was loved by his neighbors and everybody else he came into contact with but was so very insensitive when it came to his paintings !   Continue…

Marrying mother's brother ( Mena Mama) is prevalent in AP too. This is done to keep the property within the family. But this trend is gradually disappearing in urban regions, Though it's there in rural affluent families.

In the south marriage between cousins ( brother and sisters children) is very common  and preferred because of various reasons. In some communities marrying mother's brother is also the norm and is very much in practice ..
