It is pretty dicely to judge a person solely based on a typical act which defies all logic but you are the right person to act on it.If you are firmly convinced that the said act is actuated by a highly condemnable motive to humiliate you, delete the file for ever as a self-respecting person and heave a sigh relief that you have rid yourself of a stinker!!

As far as artworks are concerned, it is mainl;y in India that controversies are created regarding the caste of the artist. But no one ever says anything about the real talent and skill of the artist. In this case, where Hussain's paintings are concerned, we already had another similar discussion where I had made it quite clear that Hussain was never trained as an artist and it was by fluke that he was systematically and in a planned manner projected as being one. He did not have the basic strong drawing skill and strong sense of composition which a professional artist SHOULD have. While his loyal fans speak about Hussain's bold content, colour composition, his horses depicting freedom etc. they themselves seem to be forgetting that art is about "picking up that is beautiful and presenting it in such a manner that it is aesthetically pleasing and appealing to the viewer's" Hussain's art certainly lacks it all and only those praised his art to whom those pieces have brought money in auctions. It is only because Hussain is a Muslim that we find so many loyal fans of his here even though he has neither talent nor skill. We had many other Muslim artists, professionally trained and more adept at paintings but just because they were not projected by media and certain other factions, have remained obscure to this day. We have Abalal Rehman from Kolhapur , Abdur Rahman Chughtai from Lahore, and S.S. Shaikh, an excellent artist who died last month in Mumbai. But do anyone even know their names?? Just google these names and see their works and compare them with Hussain. But please just do not keep praising Hussain and his paintings because in my opinion, by doing so, you are insulting not Hindu culture or Gods, but the whole purpose of what art is and what role it plays in development of our society.

The more calm and collected one person is the more heated the other person gets because he or she feels challenged ! However, everything depends of the situation and circumstance and one cannot always be on ones guard .We are all human and at times everybody gets ruffled and say mean and unflattering things  to others. But if you genuinely feel bad and apologise , there is nothing like it !

Every part of the country and every city has such incidents taking place. Here in Mangalore where we have had some of the worst communal riots, things are very much under control during normal times. Diwali is celebrated by all other communities , so also Xmas and although celebrating Id is complicated because of their closed in attitude , normally the  Muslims invite their friends for a meal or send Biriyani, Kebab and kheer that they normally make to friends' - normally Hindus and Christians' homes. The trouble begins only when there is some communal incident or else it hardly matters since people are too busy with their own lives and problems, and religion is the least of their worries!

Gulshan Kumar Ajmani wrote: Sex and nudity are not taboo so far as Hindudeities are concerned. You have agod of sex- called Kaam Deva or Madan. The western equivalent is Cupid.  Rati is the female sex goddess. The Hindu god Kaal Bhairav drinks liquer and non veg food. similarly Kaali goddess.  In fact, gods are cosidered likehiman, theywear same dress as human like dhoti, sari, blouse. The gods are also married likehiman- Shiva Parvati, Laxmi, Vishnu and so on.  As such, it is not so bizarre to paint them as if they were ordinary humans. That is why Hussain would ave painted the goddesses nude.    He neither picked Rati nor Kaamdeva. He chose Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati. His paintings went much beyond being like ordinary human. Many are bizzare. What about his painting of Godess Durga and the Tiger? Do we worship our Gods in that form or do we have that kind of image in our minds? Being from a different religion he obviously did not understand that or he understood it too well . I have nothing against Muslims in general. I have many Muslim friends but they are either respectful towards our beliefs or non committal and I have equal respect for theirs. I have been to Ajmer Sharif and I believe in its powers. I never supported Babri Masjid demolition. We should either be respectful towards the other religion or at least non committal. In the name of art how much is acceptable is of course a personal choice.

Very informative article ! Even corn , Verruca and calluses can sometimes become cancerous if neglected for a long period of time. Feet is as important as other parts of our body since they are all interconnected and one can affect the other when there is some problem, I am told that one should never ever neglect a feeling of  weakness in the legs and feet , since it may indicate other far more serious problems.

I don't support artwork that hurts religious sentiments especially when the creator of such work belongs to a different religion. In the name of freedom for expression they can't target other religion. In my opinion it is immoral. Hussain's so called art work on Hindu goddesses was in poor taste especially since there is no basis for it..what was he trying to express through that? On the other hand Dan Brown's book ,The Da Vincci code sure is controversial but done on a basis of a lot of research and he has written it showing two different view points, two different schools of thought..so I would not mind reading something like it.In other words art work or writing is acceptable if there is some basis or logic behind it. Otherwise it is hate-work indeed.

One should avoid hate-work in the name of artwork. To live in a society respectfully one should learn the norms and ethics. An eminent artist/writer has no licence to insult others feelings. One's work is reflection of his mind.

@ Vijay, Khajuraho is not obscene. I was just giving my view point. I have also mentioned about what is acceptable to me. If Hussain was so secular, why didn't he portray the Muslims the way he did with Hindu Gods ?

It is commendable thing that the Ganesh mandal offered space to the Muslims for their prayers and is a positive sign. I recently also read about a couple of Masjids in Kolhapur who celebrate Ganesh festival for 10 days exactly like Hindus inside the masjids. Such activities of communal brotherhood are commendable and they should be encouraged and motivated more than ever before now. But whether such things happen or not depends on the common people themselves and their willpower to change things and think for the society as a whole. While such incidences of brotherhood do happen regularly, it is also an undeniable fact that events of opposite nature take place even more frequently than such good ones. eg. in Pune, there are a few areas where the aforementioned community is localized in large numbers and a few days before Ganesh festival begins, take it upon themselves to severely disrupt normal routine for the society and try their level best to start riots. So the Hindus who live in these areas cannot do anything else but remain together and put up resistance against these people. Who is to be blamed here?? I must add that many have tried until now to change the attitudes of these disrupters but none have succeeded so far and these events are a regular feature for many years!

On the evening of February 28, 1919, the poet, for the first time, sang the inspiring devotional song and enthralled the college authorities, who selected it as the prayer song. This happened in 1919 in Madanapalle in AP He spent five days at the Theosophical College

Great. it was really inspiring to see the poet singing it in his own voice.

Not to feel insulted is not good but to continue feeling insulted is wrong. One has to decide to move away. Life is too precious to be wasted on insults. Forgive and forget is a great mantra for a peaceful life. Difficult initially but becomes a way of life eventually.

@Suni51, I do not want you to give in to my philosophy so pl do not feel guilty. India is a democratic country and everyone has a right to his opinions however contrasting they may be from others. That is the beauty of Indian Constitution and the fact that Hindus are basically secular and inclusive minded. Attempts to make their outlook narrower  may not succeed, if history is a witness. Rest time will only tell.

In Suni51's case his painting of Hussain's supporters as envisaged by him, in today's environment will be hailed not only as a piece of fantastic art but he would be promoted as a champion of a particular philosophy. Wewould also shine in the reflected glory of having shared forum with him. Such are the times we are in.
