Just learning random words and their meanings does not mean one has mastered a language. The current trend with respect to most IT professionals who keep visiting foreign countries, use Google translate apps on mobiles to translate English to respective languages and then claim that they have learnt that particular language.   @anil, that is indeed a great thing that you not just learned to speak Punjabi but also write it. Because my personal experience is , we tend to learn to speak other Indian languages but never take efforts to learn to write the respective script, because learning to write the script of any language is the basic and important step towards learning that l;anguage.

What a joke! Whom are we trying to appease? I favor writing all languages in Roman script. The Urdu stories in Rajasthan Textbooks were also in Devnagri script and not Persian. I have seen many invitation cards by Muslim in Deva Nagri script though language is Urdu.  I may reiterate here that Urdu and Hindi are similar. In our talk, it is not possible to say whether you are speaking in Urdu or Hindi. Personally, I favor writing Urdu in Devnagri script or Roman.

I refuse to buy that Sanskrit is 'deva vasa' as it vast literature contains atheistic, agnostic and even pornographic contents.Similarly its Indian ESS is also open to debate as the Aryans who are claimed to have owned it,originated from Central Asia.In fact Horoppa and Mahenjadoro civilizations which predates Aryans some 5000 years back continue to remain the mysterious link.It is not yet known which language they spoke. This flourishing civilization made an abrupt disappearance from the face of this planet!!

Picking up a few words or a few sentences of a language is not proper learning. However I would prefer learning the right way as many languages as my mental faculties permit!!

In the present scenario of erasing the borders and the entire world is treated as a Global village, it is highly essential to learn English which is considered as Universal language . In tune with this, in my state, English is made mandatory during High school education on wards. Of course it depends on the student's ultimate aims.  Those who  do not aspire for foreign education and wish to continue in India will go for either Sanskrit or Telugu. This is what our education system in AP for the last few decades.

I think it is incorrect to give a political angle to any change that happens in the country. The Hindi which we speak has a lot of Urdu words. So obviously it can not be totally removed from Text books. I'm sure such lessons can not be removed in UP where the language is spoken by many.Urdu is an Indian language and Modi himself uses them in plenty in his poems. Many a times the text books undergo changes for the betterment. Why should an issue be made out of it ? So far as having only Hindi or state local language in the primary level is concerned, in my opinion, it is not a good idea. With globalization, our next generation need to be at par with their counterparts from other countries. So they need to know the foreign languages as well and starting early makes the base strong.

I know Sunil you are adept in many languages. That's because you are a globe trotter who love to visit places, learn their culture. That has many advantages. No place in India will look new and strange to you.Kudos to you.

People returning their awards should return the money associated with their awards (with Interest) and passport as they have no right to be called Indians after doing this shameful act.

True. Languages are meant for communication and exchanging the thoughts. I prefer education in the early education should be in the State's language. In my case it is Telugu. From middle school on wards there should be an option between Local language /English/ Sanskrit. Out of these it is essential for the student to choose any two languages out of the three.' In the college one can go for English medium education or Telugu medium depending on the student's future plans.

There is no such condition of intolerance in India, this all is fabricated by the opposition parties. They are not only doing it against our government but also a wrong message is going in the other countries about India. Situation is under control and everyone in India is living freely with peace, but these politicians are spreading false message in our society as well in world about our country.

Urdu language is known by a very few people in our country. We should keep those languages which is understood by majority of people in our country. Now it is the time that we should teach our students in Indian languages. Why we follow foreign languages? It will be more easy for our students if they learn in a language which they speak, which they understand. In most of our families local languages are spoken. So our primary education should be in either Hindi or state's local language. I found that it is difficult for most of the students to learn in English than our own local languages. We should respect our languages then others will respect us.

Second thing Urdu is not popular in Rajasthan. No doubt Hindi and Urdu is sisters. Teaching of Sanskrit is not evil. Yours is a very balanced view , it also goes to show how intolerant some people have become so much so that anything connected to a minority issue is blown out of proportion , twisted around and a different meaning is given.. Here is not reason to oppose Sanskrit, Sanskrit in mother of all languages. Computer language is basically Sanskrit. Foreign languages also have words of Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the mother of many language. We should be proud of the fact that Sanskrit was born in this country. It's also known as the Divine language. It is my suggestion that from 6th to 12th class students must be learn one Indian language in each class. In 7 years 7 Indian language, Tamil, Telgu, Bangali, Marthi, Kannad,...... Of course, it's a good suggestion. The Educationists should look into the feasibility part. Especially the 7 years clause and the burden of fees that falls on the parents.

Twisting and mutilating the news is very common activity of the print and electronic media especially when  in the present scenario wherein  most of the News papers are owned by the prominent political parties. In this murky condition The Hindu is one of the news papers which can be relied upon for impartial news. There is one Telugu News paper, Adhra Jyoti known for its integrity and impartial news has been banned by the Telangana Government has been brought back by the order of the Supreme court. https://www.quora.com/Which-Indian-media-TV-Newspaper-is-the-most-unbiased-report-news-most-accurately http://www.deccanchronicle.com/151104/nation-current-affairs/article/supreme-court-asks-lift-ban-telecast-abn-andhra-jyothi-channel

May be the merereturning of awards is symbolic andthis may have no affect.   That was a fabricated case in UP which has nothing to do with Center and no one is talking about Kashmiri Pundits or Sikhs which happened under the nose of Congress government   directly.
