Kalyani, we have this work culture which never goes from start to finish ! Everywhere you can see half finished work with no co-ordinaton between the different departments involved. Like for example , in my own city the main street in my area was done up with interlocking tiles and it looked really nice. After one year they have dug up the sides to build rain water drains and it was left half finished with the debris collected during the work lying n the sides. Now they are digging up the middle of the road because they have to lay some pipes. Honestly what kind of a work culture is this? Our state government has bee doing this sort of thing all over Bangalore ..now it extends here as well ! I am told they make huge amounts of money each time they call for tender and funds get allocated ..

And where there is a true and sincere will to help others, there is a way as is evident from the fact that Maharashtra CM Fadnavis arranged for a special water train brought in from Rajasthan which was filled with 5 lakh liters of water in Miraj and sent to Latur which is affected severely with drought.
So do not confuse others saying water was brought from Rajasthan!
@ Usha, I agree with you, there is no need for IPL, already enough water has been wasted on T20 matches. Not just in Maharashtra, these should be permitted anywhere in country at least until the monsoons start.
Now the Panni league consisting BCCI, IPL and others invlved including the state government which was not sure whose side to take have been asked to move the IPL elsewhere . If they bring it here to Karnataka there will be civil war ! As of now there is not a single state that can afford to waste water and make the IPL leagues richer by a few crore rupees. They should think of closing down ..

It is amazing to see the spirit of unity and compassion towards fellow gamblers. Recently, a gambler lost Rs. fifty lakh. As il luck would have it, he was hospitalized for cancer. His gambler friends came to his rescue. They are financing his medical treatment and also supporting his family. After all, he had lost the money to the other gamblers and they must help him. Never seen such spirit elsewhere. This is incident at Khandoli Agra.

How can you forget percentage. This is important to understand real popularity of any leader or party as well as recognition by election commission. That is why percentages are displayed by election commission. It may be okay to support or oppose a leader or party but one has to be realistic and rationalist enough to see the actual position. BJP led NDA could get power but it cannot be overlooked that this could be achieved by very heavy support in some states of North, West and central India, In many places, the NDA has no presence. The significance of percentage is important as even a small decline in percentage can reduce many seats.
Percentages are important in a proportional system of representation like in Italy. In the westminister model which we follow percentages are only of academic interest and in fact irrelevent.
Percentage of voters, dispersion of party supporters on geographical basis and degree of commitment to party are very relevant in forecasting election results. High percentage is a morale booster to a political party. In last elections, BSP could not get even a single seat in Lok Sabha but there was increase in votes- dispersed all over India. This fact is relevant to recognition of the party at national level. Moreover, percentage of votes indicates future prospects of a party. To elucidate, BJP is not likely to win good number of seats in election to the assembly of five states but even then if there is increase in votes, the party may hope for better scope in future.

The Indian mentality is to clean ones own house and garden if they have one and throw the rubbish into another compound or street side. It is precisely because of this attitude that our public places are filthy. How much can the authorities do ?
Very true Usha, Indian mentality is such that each one is concerned with his own personal safety, security and cleanliness and does not feel responsible and accountable for the others. That is why, the first thing when something happens is that the mobs attack and destroy public properties, not considering the fact that they are for our own usage. Same thing goes for public places, they are outside our houses so no harm in dirtying them.
Thankfully, action against spitters is being taken big time in Pune since last week. People spitting from buses and vehicles are forcibly taken off the vehicles and made to pay fines and also clean up their own mess. But the point is, continuity of the action. I only hope that this is carried through out so that finally people stop spitting outside.
It is also imperative that people do it automatically , like they do at home. You don't litter inside your house, so why do it outside ? One more very annoying habit we have is piling building material and building debris on road side or wherever there is space. In Mangalore this had become such a nuisance. It seems to have become a little better although we get to see piles of building material the moment we leave city limits on the road side and empty places. I am not sure who to blame here ? the authorities for not providing a proper place for getting rid of it or the builders..
True USha, the problem of infrastructure is also there. The problem of disposing different kinds of trash and debris has not been thought of by the authorities and the lack of certain guidelines and proper allocation of space results in such mess everywhere. It is not just Mangalore but all cities and towns where large scale constructions undergo, you see the building debris being dumped in open grounds, river banks, abandoned quarries, roadside open areas etc. Also the builders who are out to make only profits do not bother with where the debris lands, in fact they can take some efforts to get rid of such debris more effectively and in environment friendly manner but that would cost money., which they are not ready to part with.

Mediocrity and not excellence is way of life in India. Here we are always satisfied with mediocre results. Most of us are interested only in money and not excellence. Cricket is given more importance in India whereas China is no Cricket player. Other games are being neglected owing to Cricket. Cricket is also more a source of income to speculators and the managers of Cricket Control Board.

True..unless and until it is not made expensive people will use such facilities in a cheap manner and keep dirtying them. Recently I saw the photos of the newly inaugurated Gatiman Express as it looked form inside the very next day and it was hard to believe that people could be so dirty and irresponsible. The field of sports shows how backward India is in the field of sports. With a population of 1.2 billion, we are unable to win any sports involving strength and speed anywhere. A few winners here and there does not hide the stark fact the priority of the Indian governments have been lopsided. remember one swallow does not make the summer. You can only get sportsmen if the NATIONAL HEALTH improves. Here we have failed and per capita consumption of protein is among the lowest in the world. What to talk of there is famine and shortage of food. Who is responsible?
Abroad people ask me why your nation 1.2 billion cannot throw up a single winner in athletics and games of strength. I give some lame answer and walk away. It is an insult. The priority of the government should not be to run bullet train but FIRST, feed the people with a healthy diet. Even Mars probe has little meaning if a child goes half hungry to bed. That's why I say we need a Kemel Mustapha , sadly there is no one.

Very true. There is a state of reluctance in general prevailing in this country. This state of reluctance starts from the family, to the educational institutions to the Governments. The basic reason for this reluctance is, Indian society in general has a very bad notion about Sports and Games.
"If you study you will become a Nawab. If you play, you will become Kharab. "
There are very sportsmen and women who carved a niche of theirs in he Sports and Games Field, People like Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza, Milkha Singh, Karanam Malleswari, proved their eminence in Olympics and Asian games. But their number is very less.
Unless the Government takes initiative, the situation in Sports arena will remain as a dream.
Lastly, Modi in one of the Swatch Bharat sessions said. Swatch Bharat paves the way for a Healthy Nation. As you said it's only a Healthy Nation can produce good Sportsmen.
