Aparna Popat a Badminton champion says that  China's essential aim is to win Glory for the Nation through sport. To achieve this, the Chinese established centralized elite sports system. Additionally, there were Govt run sports training centres at all levels, National, provincial, city and county sports schools. Children as young as 4 years were identified and put into these training centres. All expenses will be born by the State. Aparna Popat says, in India, the support comes only from the family. She along with another Badminton Champion Gopichand became Champions only due to the support of the family. Hence, if in India too unless such support from the State is not there, it becomes a dream for India to produce Olympic Champions.

Believe it or not it is very difficult for a convict to get back into the main stream because no matter what he does people look at him or her with suspicion. In my own town after Yaseen and Riaz  Batkal were rounded off , many others too were taken in by the police. One of them was our fisherman's son ho was just 18 years old . The father wanted help in getting him out but saying that his son was never involved in any terror activities nor did he help anyone. Later it was proved that he was innocent but had known and interacted with another youngster who was part of the terror gang that was caught. But the poor boy is seen with suspicion till today by his own people and of course others ,it is sad to see a hard working poor family face such a situation.

Betting on race horses is like gambling and throwing away your money unless you can afford to do so..Many a times the races are manipulated so you can never be sure which horse would win the popular choice or any other.

MG Singh wrote: As far as sports is concerned it is connected with national health and Nehru is responsible as under him poverty line increased and that obviously reflected on sports as well.I agree others after him should have changed the policy, but when Narasimaha Rao started change we were nearly 4 decades behind time.  it will now take another 50 years to eradicate poverty( if at all it is eradicated) and then only national health will improve.Automatically sports will get a filip, but where will other nations be at that time ?   I too feel that hardly any importance was given to sports until the nineties, in fact Sportsmen have had it tough for decades except for cricket players ..Nehru  may be excused to some extent because he had the task of nation building , so he had to see what was priority but Indira Gandhi continued  to be the same or even worse . I know of one instance ( cannot remember the exact year) when the Bangalore college students went on a strike because 2 athletes selected for Olympics were left behind .The reason being that the officials, MLAs, ministers and their wives consisted of the bulk of the entourage, attending Olympics , funded by the tax payers , leaving no place for athletes. When the athletes  approached the sports ministry they were asked to fund for themselves . This led to a huge protest which went on for months together.. Why I brought this up is to show the levels to which our democracy had fallen under Indira Gandhi who institutionalised corruption n every field possible. Bribes became a way of life. Her lop sided priorities and her dependence on her coterie of sycophants only added to her downfall..

Money should not become an obsession to the extent where you overlook everything except the procurement of money. Instead of thinking about money all the time, it is better to divert ones mind towards ways on how you can improve yourself and earn better. I am sure it goes a long way in helping you become financially self sufficient !

Why does some one else's wisdom irritate you. You have a right to your wisdom I have right to my wisdom. I do not denigerate  you for expressing your wisdom or for being rude towards those whose views are different from yours. It is you who distrbute advice left and right without moderation. It seems to me there is some dissatisfaction somewhere . Live and let live. Politicians also start with noble idea of public service and go astray due to many reasons and amass wealth. If they have a change of heart they should also be pardoned and not condemned. Take it or leave it but do not act as prosecutor and judge.

@MGSingh please get your history of China right. It was not Mao who took China forward but Dang. Mao left it in shambles with his disasterous cultural revolution. Chinas economy for a boost because USA transferred its labor intensive industries to a totalirian country where labor could not protest at being paid lower salaries benefiting the American consumer. In India this would not have been posible because we chose democracy nourished magnificiently in its formative years by Nehru. In your hatred for him you can now blame him for China's progress too. RAMBABU you may find all this useless so please keep out of it.

Kalyani Nandurkar said thank you to usha manohar for his/her reply to the topic Some annoying Indian habits ( practices)...
Kalyani, we have this work culture which never goes from start to finish ! Everywhere you can see half finished work with no co-ordinaton between the different departments involved. Like for example , in my own city the main street in my area was done up with interlocking tiles and it looked really nice. After one year they have dug up the sides to build rain water drains and it was left half finished with the debris collected during the work lying n the sides. Now they are digging up the middle of the road because they have to lay some pipes. Honestly what kind of a work culture is this? Our state government has bee doing this sort of thing all over Bangalore ..now it extends here as well ! I am told they make huge amounts of money each time they call for tender and funds get allocated ..

True, more for grammar and spelling mistake rather than the content which, I feel is always at its best when it is spontaneous...later when you correct it and edit it, it loses that freshness. I agree, spontaneity in forum posts does imbibe freshness and honesty in the posts much more than carefully worded and edited posts, but the mistakes should not be glaringly evident nor change the meaning of words or sentences, which sometimes we see in some peoples' posts.

Inspiring story indeed. For those learned and illustrious members who have been comparing them with politicians and 'wise' suggestions that a separate cadre be made of such bandits etc. etc. let us make this a little more clear that the bandits turn into bandits as a result of harrassment, ill treatment, abuse and are driven to turn into bandits. But after imprisonment and ample repentence, should they choose to lead a nonviolent life and strive to making good of all the wrongs they have done, how does it compare with the politicians? Politicians are dishonest and under the guise of doing service, loot people of their hard earned money and do not even a morsel of repentance nor show guilt of tehir wrongdoings. The only good the society gains from them is when those leechers die! So my advise to the member is, to think before dispersing his pearls of wisdom!

And where there is a true and sincere will to help others, there is a way as is evident from the fact that Maharashtra CM Fadnavis arranged for a special water train brought in from Rajasthan which was filled with 5 lakh liters of water in Miraj and sent to Latur which is affected severely with drought. So do not confuse others saying water was brought from Rajasthan! @ Usha, I agree with you, there is no need for IPL, already enough water has been wasted on T20 matches. Not just in Maharashtra, these should be permitted anywhere in country at least until the monsoons start. Now the Panni league consisting BCCI, IPL and others invlved including the state government which was not sure whose side to take have been asked to move the IPL elsewhere . If they bring it here to Karnataka there will be civil war ! As of now there is not a single state that can afford to waste water and make the IPL leagues richer by a few crore rupees. They should think of closing down .. I agree Usha! If the IPL is canceled this year no one is going to die of hunger. People who suggest that IPL should not suffer losses should take the matches to their home town and supply all water needed, we do not want to give our water to cheap entertainment, this is my state, my people and I don't enjoy watching such cheap watches for the sake of few moments of worthless excitement!
