1, Italian court referred to her as "the driving force" in the decision to acquire the helicopters for R s. 3,600 crore. 2,The documents also refer to Dr Manmohan Singh, who was then Prime Minister. "There is no case, my party will respond on this," he told NDTV today. 3, It is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who decided, after coming to power, that AgustaWestland is eligible to bid for new defence contracts, the Congress says. But the fact is something else actually it was Mr Modi after coming to power blacklisted Augusta deal not UPA as they claim to show they are innocent.. http://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/agustawestland-not-blacklisted-under-upa-rule-govt-116042701115_1.html I am sure there is more muck to come out in the coming days.

Context is clearly mentioned. In this regard, if you want to have tons of info, have a look  Indian express with the headline, Mama Mia - Sonia Gandhi.

The Italian Court's judgment in the AuguataWestland VVIP Chopper deal, pointed out directly towards Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Ex PM Manmohan and party leaders Ahmed Patel and Oscar Fernandes pocketed Rs. 3600 Cr In this condition a question arises. Why the Bribe Givers, Italian officials of Augusta have been convicted and the Bribe takers are silent.

The Italian court has mentioned Signora Gandhi. Now I wonder who is this Signora   http://www.firstpost.com/politics/sonia-gandhi-congress-agustawestland-finmeccanica-bjp-2751502.html?utm_source=FP_CAT_LATEST_NEWS

A channel reports that" The Italian court has, however, not  identified the recipients of the bribe. It hasn't provided any evidence that the middlemen actually met the Congress president and her advisors like Ahmed Patel and Oscar Fernandes, whose names figure in the correspondence. The court has not been able to track the flow of kickbacks to India either. According to a report in The Hindu, Italian middleman James Christian Michel, who has been accused by the CBI of outing the funds, has also given a clean chit to the Gandhis. Michel claims he had never met the Congress president or a “single Gandhi” in his life. The accused middleman says he is willing to depose before the CBI, which is probing the deal, to answer all questions related to the scam. So, unless the CBI or some other Indian agency comes up with concrete evidence of the involvement of the Gandhis in the deal, the allegations will remain just that."

In matters of corruption and bribing Italy is in many ways ahead of even India. But credit goes to their court for deciding in the matter within reasonable period. Here we are still busy scoring debating points.

The credit to the judge needs to be given because if he had not reacted emotionally there was no move from the present govt. also to increase number of judges. Also this remark was in response to the greatest bhakta's post and not yours. Pl do not overreact.

It looks like the BJP is going to allow Subramanium Swamy to speak first on the issue since according to protocol, the maiden speaker's speech cannot be interrupted. Going by the way Swamy puts out all his guns while speaking about the congress and Gandhis, this one is going to be very interesting . But whatever the manner in which congress has earlier tried to douse fire on the Augusta Westland scam, this time it is not going to be so easy to bury it up.

Each building to cost Rs. 1 crore, for what purpose? Same thing with other states too! And then these state governments, when it comes to more important fundings, cry that their coffers are empty! Really disgusting! To a certain extent one can blame the people of the state and the opposition who put up with such nonsense.Same thing was planned in Karnataka but the opposition BJP created such an uproar that they had to stop the idea.. I find it extremely disturbing that the Chief Ministers have the freedom to spend tax payers money as they want without any accountability. This same CM spent a hge amount on a vehicle and now this.. I agree, it is the way that people put up with such nonsense that it later becomes the norm for these politicians. I guess, since after the British left India, there were really only a handful of true leaders who believed that only simplicity and honesty will form a true democracy. But sadly, the others picked up where the former princes and kings left off and as the leaders, claimed all such riches and prosperity for themselves. On the other hand, British who gave the true concept of democracy to the world, their leaders live as simply as the next common man. The former viceroys, after reaching England were seen carrying their own burdens as they no longer could put a claim to any perks that their former positions had afforded. Now, even a mayor of a small town, who may not possess even the most basic of qualifications exercises his claim to a swanky super expensive car, newly refurbished bungalows no lesser than a mansion that come with all the latest trappings. I think it is very much the fact that the common people allow t to happen, the reason for such unnecessary show of wealth amongst politicians. I totally agree with that, I remember seeing TV footage of Princess Diana carrying her luggage while travelling and John Majors doing household chores like vaccum cleaning and mowing the lawn in their home during weekends. Most of the UK Prime Ministers leave their official residence, 10 Downing road/street for the weekend and stay in their own homes like other normal people . Can you expect this from even a Police officer or a higher government official here .. Yes USha, and we have seen photos of Obama, the President of the strongest country in the world, the man who holds the most power than any other man, washing up dishes after breakfast. Many Presidents and Prime Ministers of European nations cycle their way to work or travel by metro along with other regular workers. That simplicity is the true key to real democracy, ours is only a pretend one, in that aspect. Our politicians insist on all the highest perks, insist on large motorcades everywhere they go and never abide by rules meant for people.

My 14 year old son is a voracious reader and I have noticed that he is fond of Amish Tripathy whose genre is mythology. As we all know, presently, Chetan Bhagat is a very popular novelist who writes in a very casual English. Those who love the English language, they are not fond of Bhagat's English.     A good starting. As you said about Chetan Bhagat's down to earth language, add about his books too. This will facilitate other members to add some of their opinions too. I never read Bhagat's novel but I read his article in news paper, I don't like to much style. Once I read books written by P.M. Ayier, (Memory Bites) an IAS  and P.S of president Dr Abdul Kalam. Books is nice one.   IS P. M. Aiyer and Pico Aiyer the same author. Please do share a bit more about his books and style of writing.     Some time back I read one of Iyer's books although my memory is very sketchy now. It was a novel about Cuba and Havana called Cuba and the Night ! Was good...I started another and left it half way through because someone else borrowed the book The Lady and the Monk, have still not got back that book. I tend to compare him to Vikram Seth, very similar writing and narrative styles. His father Raghavan Iyer was also a highly educated and qualified person, also wrote some books on politics and philosophy if I am not mistaken,, I have never read Vikram Seth too so don't know much about it, although I have read reviews about some of Pico Iyer's books and they are really good. I checked out our local library but unfortunately, they don't have his books and also had not heard about him. So I am going to buy his books now.
