Could you spell the ills of today other than your favorite UCC, and percieved preference to minorities? It would help in moving discussion beyond these limitations.

While I agree with you partially, I have this to say.If you are able to analyse a matter to a certain extent, I am sure that Modi and his team would have gone into it a dozen times deeper than that. So let us wait for the outcome and since Modi came into power inspite of the combined opposition , he has achieved s lot and gained in popularity, let us wait and watch how this snd the mother of all scams take shape in the coming days..

Do you mean it as a left-hand compliment? I am afraid you have not understood me. I am a nationalist and unfortunately in all your postings I don't see this quality. Backing for the sake of backing is your forte. Open your eyes man and don't see everything in black and white, there are shades in between.

Recently India refused Visa to 3dissidentss from China to attend a conclave at Dharamshala. The sad part is that in 2 cases the visa was issued and then cancelled. This was on Chinese pressure and Modi gave in. He forgot that China had vetoed the Indian proposal against the terrorist Azar Mehmood. This failure to defy China is baffling and shows that Modi has a fear psychosis of China.
In contrast, I will give credit to Nehru who gave political asylum to the Dalai Lama and allowed a Tibet government in Exile. This despite the vehement opposition of China and Mao. I give Nehru credit for this. Sadly I am disheartened with Modi. People may please read my post on Modi in Boddunan.com to realize that he is missing his date with history. In any case buckling to China is NOT acceptable.

usha manohar created new topic Country is facing Severe Summer this year..
Almost everywhere this year we have been facing a very Severe Summer .. Drinking water is scarce and whatever ground water is present in wells and lakes, get dried up due to the severe heat. In Karnataka many cities have touched the highest temperatures ever recorded - Bangalore known as the air conditioned city in the past , saw temperature soaring up to 39.4 degrees, so also Mysore which used to remain pleasant all through the year.. In my own town Mangalore we have seen temperatures rise up to 38 degrees and combined with nearly 80% humidity the heat becomes unbearable. Orissa had the highest temperature recorded at 43.8 degrees. There have been several deaths due to the heat wave and with ground water depleting at a fast rate we may face very difficult days until monsoon begins. In my own town, we have water storage for 8 days only , so they are going to reduce the water supply to half ( now we get water once in two days for 6 hours) and plan on stretching it to 16 days or more if they can further reduce the supply . Wells are fast drying up. In my own house, for the first time our well has completely dried up. It is a drought situation in many villages and towns,
I am sure all of us are facing similar problems due to heat and scarcity of water. Please add your own experiences and suggestions to beat the heat, save water etc..

On Uniform Civil Code, the manifesto said Art 44 of the Constitution lists Uniform Civil Code (UCC) as one of the directive principles of the state policy. "BJP believes that there cannot be gender equality till such time India adopts a UCC which protects the rights of all women and the BJP reiterates its stand to draft a UCC drawing upon the best traditions and harmonising them with modern times," said the document.
I dont see anything wrong with what they have said, so why is the opposition , the communal parties and its supporters challenging them ? Are they going to oppose something the will be welcomed by the majority of the nation to please a few ..I guess it is the fear that BJP will march over them that makes them keep bringing this issue every now and then...very immature and childish ! They dont seem to realise that there is a time for everything esp now when the parliament has its hands full with all the ghotalas of the previous government coming out, the saffron infested people have to bite their words
Presently, neither the ruling party is doing anything to bring legislation on uniform personal law nor anyone is opposing. How can something be opposed if this is not even proposed or anything done?
Then why do you keep bringing it up ? They will do what they have to do at the right time, so let us wait..
Excuse me. Please check who has initiated this thread. I would never raise such issue which is not current- nobody proposing and no body opposing. Once a thread is initiated, comments follow from all.
May not be on thread but on other threads too you have brought in the UCC issue, almost as if they were lying about it, why not give them a chance especially after the corruptions and scams which we saw in the previous regime and the scandals continue even now to haunt them..

The very fact that there are fewer members , the quality of response should be such that it invokes response not bore you to death because you are reading the same ideas again in a different form may be for the 3 rd or 4th time...I too work on many forums and know how a discussion progresses and becomes interesting and more importantly interactive, not a monologue , which is what happens here at times...

Attack is their policy, so BJP leaders have to take quick action against the Family !

Honestly speaking I am not a great novel reader. I love to read articles, short stories and poems. My 14 year old son is a voracious reader and I have noticed that he is fond of Amish Tripathy whose genre is mythology. As we all know, presently, Chetan Bhagat is a very popular novelist who writes in a very casual English. Those who love the English language, they are not fond of Bhagat's English.
I want to read Amish Tripathy's Shiva trilogy books, I have heard that they are quite good. I am very much surprised and pleased to know that your 14-year-old son has reached the stage where he is reading those books, as some of the adults have found it a little hard to understand them. I personally too am not really fond of Chetan Bhagat's style of writing, although his ideas behind each of his books are good.
Kalyani, His school and being parents we encouraged him to read books and now, he is a bookworm. He has finished series after series of many authors. He is extremely fond of Greek and Roman mythologies. Amish Tripathy's Scion of Ikshivaku is another favourite of his other than the Shiva Triology. Well, books of Chetan Bhagat, I personally feel is not of his age and even he shows no interest in reading his books. He loves to read detective books also such as Sherlock Homes, Agatha Christie and translated works of Satyajit Ray.
THat is really great Shampa! Nowadays most parents complain their children don't read books but they themselves don't take much efforts to inculcate reading habits in the children. LIke you, I too have encouraged and motivated my son a great deal and at 8, he is already reading more books than a 10-year-old kid. Just yesterday, we got his report card and teh teacher's remark says it all, "Adroit Arnav is a voracious reader and an ocean of knowledge at such a young age" My day was made simply reading that!
Right now, he is reading more of Asterix and Obelix and has become a great fan of Julius Caesar and reads up on everything he can find out about him. Do recommend me some good books on Roman and Greek mythology since your son is reading those books. I am sure its a good sign yor son is refusing to read Chetan Bhagat books, no offense intended to Chetan Bhagat fans of course, it is my personal opinion. You should now introduce him to classics such as Jules Vernes adventures, he will love them!
