I have just read Vincent Sheen's book " Nehru, the Years of power". On reading one finds that Nehru's fault was the  failure to recognize that military power is the cornerstone of great nation status. I wonder how Modi is different. He is also of guilty of much more. The Ex-servicemen's agitation is on as he has sanctioned a watered down OROP which is not acceptable to servicemen. Modi has again failed to realise that ex-soldiers and serving soldiers have an umbilical cord connection like Mother and child. He is playing with fire as earlier also I have written the 3 service Chiefs have protested and morale is getting low in serving troops.  I am aghast at all this as I attended his opening speech election rally in Haryana where he promised OROP in 30 days. What happened to that? He is doing a good job on corruption, but great nations are not built only on fighting corruption. The only countries laughing at Indian expense is China and Pakistan. One can read if time permits "https://www.boddunan.com/articles/miscellaneous/51-general-reference/24957-has-narendra-modi-missed-his-date-with-history.html

Right, apparently Modi has given in but sometimes we need to wait and watch. Maybe he has got some bigger political agenda to fix and so right now he seems to accept China's pressure.  It is not enough to state that Modi " has gained in popularity". As I have written in my  article Modi is missing his date with history. Remember time and tide wait for none. How many know that the Ex servicemen are still on hunger fast at Jantar mantar for their dues? He never sanctioned OROP as approved by Parliament and also imposed a blanket news blackout on OROP movement. The Ex servicemen form a big block in N states and last they voted for BJP, now many do not want to vote for BJP. To say that Modi has a hidden agenda when dealing with China is not correct. He is dictaed by psychosis of fear and add his refusal to patrol the China sea with USA( when Vietnam is also requesting" on the grounds that it will antagonize China is an eyeopener. I am a supporter of Modi, but the man is missing his role and like I have pointed out his horoscope shows meteroic rise and sheer fall is not a good omen. Julious Ceaser was warned of the "Ides of March", Modi also needs to beware. The Indian public wants more than just "talk". In contrast Nehru acted swiftly in case of Dalai Lama and he was welcomed to India. Mao and China ranted and called Nehru" Running dog of Imperialism", but for once I give him credit. He not only allowed 2 millon Tibet refugees in , but gave political Asylum and best allowed Tibet Government in Exile.

The typical ostrich head buried in the sand approach does not change facts. The woman was handling all UPA deals, the only saf part is that even a person like Msnmohan Singh has been dragged into the muck,  however, serves him right for being so naive and foolish!] https://www.pgurus.com/italian-court-judgment-exposing-sonia-gandhi-manmohan-singh-agustawestland-chopper-deal-full-report/

The Italian court has not mentioned Sonia but has refered to a note by an accused. There is a difference betwen the two. An AIR force Chief cannot withstand the pressure from politicians should resign rather than submit. So he is not a minor player. Yes matter should be investigated and guilty brought to book. We're does the bilions of dollars siphoned go?

The fact is the Air chief was a minor player and the main players were the Congress bigwigs and that is the reason the Italian court has mentioned the name of 'Signora Gandhi".  Even in Singapore at my usual drink session at the Singapore club most people opined that Rajiv and now Sonia have siphoned a billion dollars  abroad. How to prove it?.

An issue of national importance to be trusted in the hands and more importantly allowed t be handled by the air chief sounds laughable and only someone who is a die hard supporter can come up with such excuses. I am sure you see the news and know exactly how deeply involved the entire Congress top leaders are ..

Those students who serve as the political stooges with a long term Plan to make an entry in to politics are not welcome. My friend in the College always wanted to become a politician. For this, he used to participate in Slogan shouting road marches of a Political party which always wanted to use these apprentice students  aspiring to become  politicians. My friend was thrown in to the DUMPS, when that his party won. The real prominent party positions were distributed to those who offered huge sums.  College election is first step of politics. Some students join college only for politics. Mr. Kanhiya is 28 years old he is still college student.   The fellow is like the party he supports - full of greed, power hungry . He is living off the scholarship that he gets for as long as possible, this is what Congress has reduced India into, making leeches out of its citizens...the reserved castes make the most of the freebies given to them, and why not when the government is ready to pamper them ? Attitude for reserve classes are almost alike of all parties. Here is Rajasthan one news plan is launched for school education. Some schools are called Aadrash school. These schools have more facilities than other government school. In these school first priorties is for reserve classes and if there after if seats left vacant then student of general classes can be admitted.   One cannot do anything but go on with the age old system that has become so firmly rooted that it is impossible to change it now. It can only be eradicated bit by bit if our leaders have the will to do so..But I doubt if anyone has the courage to openly do so !

I think this is a wake up call, but whether we respond to it wisely, is the question. Yes Kalyani, I too would think this is a wake up call and unless all people do their bit, things will only become worse in the future. Deforestation is the single most factor besides our own greed for building superstructures that are anything but environmental friendly. I hope t least now our leaders realise the importance of living in harmony with nature rather than go against it..

I love to read articles, short stories and poems. My 14 year old son is a voracious reader and I have noticed that he is fond of Amish Tripathy whose genre is mythology. As we all know, presently, Chetan Bhagat is a very popular novelist who writes in a very casual English. Those who love the English language, they are not fond of Bhagat's English.   I want to read Amish Tripathy's Shiva trilogy books, I have heard that they are quite good. I am very much surprised and pleased to know that your 14-year-old son has reached the stage where he is reading those books, as some of the adults have found it a little hard to understand them. I personally too am not really fond of Chetan Bhagat's style of writing, although his ideas behind each of his books are good. Kalyani, His school and being parents we encouraged him to read books and now, he is a bookworm. He has finished series after series of many authors. He is extremely fond of Greek and Roman mythologies. Amish Tripathy's Scion of Ikshivaku is another favourite of his other than the Shiva Triology. Well, books of Chetan Bhagat, I personally feel is not of his age and even he shows no interest in reading his books. He loves to read detective books also such as Sherlock Homes, Agatha Christie and translated works of Satyajit Ray. THat is really great Shampa! Nowadays most parents complain their children don't read books but they themselves don't take much efforts to inculcate reading habits in the children. LIke you, I too have encouraged and motivated my son a great deal and at 8, he is already reading more books than a 10-year-old kid. Just yesterday, we got his report card and teh teacher's remark says it all, "Adroit Arnav is a voracious reader and an ocean of knowledge at such a young age" My day was made simply reading that! Right now, he is reading more of Asterix and Obelix and has become a great fan of Julius Caesar and reads up on everything he can find out about him. Do recommend me some good books on Roman and Greek mythology since your son is reading those books. I am sure its a good sign yor son is refusing to read Chetan Bhagat books, no offense intended to Chetan Bhagat fans of course, it is my personal opinion. You should now introduce him to classics such as Jules Vernes adventures, he will love them! Thanks a lot for your suggestion. He reads classics too but he has not read the one you suggested. My son is popular in school because of his reading habit and his librarians too try to give him books even on the days when it's not his turn. Now, he is in school so later I will let you know the names of the books you wanted to know. Though reading habit is good, it becomes a problem when the child fails to restrain himself for his regular studies. I have to always restrict him because he fails to control his temptation of reading storybooks.  True Shampa, restraint from reading books when they should be playing or doing some other thing does become a problem at times, but can be dealt with by remaining firm and insisting on some proper play time and study time etc. I am sure he will love Jules Verne adventures, you may have heard of them such as Around the World in Eighty Days, Journey to the Centre of the Earth etc. which have also been adapted rather nicely into films.

As someone who also used to enjoy reading at a young age I complement both of you for inculcating reading habit in your children in this age of electronics. One thing is sure they will never feel alone or lonely for they will always have book as their companion. Good luck to both the young ones
