This is the kind of argument put up by narrow and close minded people. Recognising and giving due importance to what is yours does not mean that you disregard others...what a stupid rejoinder !

When the minister said it is anti national to advice against Ayurveda , he means that the doctors are not showing the respect or regard that should be shown to essentially what is an Indian based knowledge which is true in a way, depends on how one wants to interpret !

Usha, he is not a bad writer in fact, I find his concepts and ideas to be quite relevant and in keeping with the modern times, he has understood the minds of Indian youth quite well. But t is the way he writes, is what I personally do not like much. I feel that reading such books with very easy, small sentences will keep the reader exposed to a very limited vocabulary and does not let the reader to exercise his or her brains in understanding the intricacies of the English language usage that is missing in Bhagat's works. Even James Hadley Chase books, very popular they may be, give us a better understanding of the language.
Chetan Bhagat's English is what most people in India would identify with. It is only the non resident Indians who grew up and studied in Britain , have an excellent command over the language . The other day I happened to read what Queen Elizabeth had to say about American English..." There is no such thing as 'American English', there is English and there are mistakes " . I would agree with that because no one could speak English as well as the British do ! The highly educated classes have perfect diction, grammar, pronunciation and a very attractive manner of speaking the language . It is a pleasure listening to their conversation..

I agree, the it is quite delightful to listen to the Queen herself on occasions, and I love the way one of my former clients and now a dear friend speaks. Not just because of the perfect diction and grammar, but the typical sing-son manner in which most British speak with. I grew up reading P. G. Wodehouse, King Arthur and his Knights tales, Gerald Durrel, Jerome, and so many others, not to mentiuon Shakespeare and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which is why I find it really hard to like Chetan Bhagat books. Not just foreign writers, but I also read many of Ruskin Bond books, every inch an Indian, eve though he may be born a British, Rudyard Kipling, again whom I consider to be more Indian than many others, so kind of difficult to like Bhagat when you have read so many of these celebrated story tellers!

I do not have much knowledge about the relationship of these fires with the depleting water, but such fires do increase pollution and temperatures. One such large scale fire has been raging for weeks in the Uttarakhand and I came to know about it only now through a Facebook page. Wonder why the government and media are both silent on such an important issue.

Yes this is being shown on all news channels since more than a week now..Normally when the summer heat is unbearable and tree branches dry out, there can be friction and become the cause of forest fire. I have seen it in western ghats and it is not easy to put it off because of the sheer volume it consumes. Such a pity that precious forest land is being lost !
How come I missed the news then? Anyway, the fires start naturally in many instances too because of friction between bone-dry grasses and branches, but it is also a fact that many people start fires deliberately to make clear ground for planting crops the next season. I know it is a tremendous effort and near impossible to douse such fires but cannot something be modelled to encounter such emergencies?

Ayurveda is India's own therapeutic Medical System having thousands of years of History. Susruta, known as the First Plastic Surgeon of the world, conducted several surgeries thousands of Years ago which look as mysteries even to the Modern Plastic Surgeons. Similarly YOGA. Seeing its importance and efficacy gaining all over the world UN declared June 21 every year as the International Yoga Day. Ridiculing Such precious indian medical systems and therapeutic methods, is nothing but ridiculing one's self.

I also don't like ridiculing any branch of medicine. I myself use Homeopathic medicines more often. Many ridicule such medicines also. This is bad. But it is too much to say that preference for any medicine system or opposing is anti national. Nationalism cannot be defined in terms of individual preferences for food, medicine, clothes.

I tend to agree with the minister, because as Indians we need to encourage our own system of medicine that has proved to be very useful. Comparing that to eating cake seems absurd .
I have personally seen how doctors ridicule any other branch of medicine other than allopathy, which shows a very restricted , narrow minded and arrogant view.

Here there is nobody even naming Modi- much less maligning him. The minister in the union government made a statement on nationalism. So nobody else has a hand in the issue. He said that doctors who oppose prescription of Ayurveda are anti national.
This is the issue. How will you define nationalism. Is preferring or not preferring certain medicine system anti nationalist or nationalist. This way, one day somebody may say that not using Patanjali products is anti nationalistic.
