In the year 1985, the Supreme Court ordered Shah Bano's husband to pay maintenance allowance to Shah Bano after divorce. The Islamic patriarchal minds did not like women winning a case over men. There were demonstrations and protests. The SC gave a chance to the government (under Rajiv Gandhi) to initiate the work towards having a Uniform Civil Code. However, Mr. Gandhi succumbed to the pressure of the Muslim community and instead of abolishing separate laws instead of the ones by the Constitution, his government in fact made necessary amendments to negate the effect of the SC judgement.
If Goa can implement UCC successfully , with a dominant Catholic population I don't see any problem in implementing UCC by different states. In fact BJP should start doing this in their own states for a start. Once they consolidate their position in almost all the states , there will be no problem in implementing it at the center as well..

The official documents are procured from the Italian courts after the judgment has been given so there is no question of compromise, in fact we should be thanking the media for what they have done . Both NewsX and Times Now have done a commendable job in exposing the black deeds of UPA and more importantly its great leader Sonia Gandhi. NDTV , tried its level best to show it is neutral but one could read between the lines..
Coming to today's Rajya Sabha debate on Augusta scam The Defence minister Parrikar cornered Congress with many facts but Congress speakers as usual evaded the main point and tried their level best to disrupt the proceedings. One could see that they were trying too waste time also putting up a brave front fr the sake of the nation..

Shampa Sadhya replied to the topic Why some people are much fond of Cricket especially Boys?.
I am a cricket lover of any form but dead against of giving all my time to the game. When I am free I definitely enjoy watching cricket but I am not insensitive. Loving a game does not mean one has to be insensitive towards countrymen. If the time calls for cancellation of this year's game then it should be done because people are dying due to scarcity of water but side by side I will once again draw the member's attention towards the misuse of water by the ministers. Shouldn't the court intervene when water is misused for watering helipad? IPl is also a source of income which enables many to have a quality living, not talking about reputed cricketers, rather talking about newcomers, groundsmen and so on. So, it can be made a system that from everyone's earning an amount can be deducted as donation and use it for digging a well and other kind of help can be extended.

Unless a social change happens with a complete change in the mindset and attitude of the society , mere degrees and education does very little to change the status of women in India. In fact the more educated males have no hesitation in asking for larger dowries because they feel they are entitled to it. Unless women dont bother too much about marriage as an absolute necessity to be entered into even at the cost of buying grooms, very little can change.
Absolutely, men do not hesitate to demand dowry and see, those women who get married to such men wilfully, is really a pathetic state. The ladies enjoy luxury such as expensive car and all with their respective husbands at the cost of the biological family's expense. I pity these ladies and have no words to describe the so called educated men who take dowry.

Honestly speaking I am not a great novel reader. I love to read articles, short stories and poems. My 14 year old son is a voracious reader and I have noticed that he is fond of Amish Tripathy whose genre is mythology. As we all know, presently, Chetan Bhagat is a very popular novelist who writes in a very casual English. Those who love the English language, they are not fond of Bhagat's English.
I want to read Amish Tripathy's Shiva trilogy books, I have heard that they are quite good. I am very much surprised and pleased to know that your 14-year-old son has reached the stage where he is reading those books, as some of the adults have found it a little hard to understand them. I personally too am not really fond of Chetan Bhagat's style of writing, although his ideas behind each of his books are good.
Kalyani, His school and being parents we encouraged him to read books and now, he is a bookworm. He has finished series after series of many authors. He is extremely fond of Greek and Roman mythologies. Amish Tripathy's Scion of Ikshivaku is another favourite of his other than the Shiva Triology. Well, books of Chetan Bhagat, I personally feel is not of his age and even he shows no interest in reading his books. He loves to read detective books also such as Sherlock Homes, Agatha Christie and translated works of Satyajit Ray.
THat is really great Shampa! Nowadays most parents complain their children don't read books but they themselves don't take much efforts to inculcate reading habits in the children. LIke you, I too have encouraged and motivated my son a great deal and at 8, he is already reading more books than a 10-year-old kid. Just yesterday, we got his report card and teh teacher's remark says it all, "Adroit Arnav is a voracious reader and an ocean of knowledge at such a young age" My day was made simply reading that!
Right now, he is reading more of Asterix and Obelix and has become a great fan of Julius Caesar and reads up on everything he can find out about him. Do recommend me some good books on Roman and Greek mythology since your son is reading those books. I am sure its a good sign yor son is refusing to read Chetan Bhagat books, no offense intended to Chetan Bhagat fans of course, it is my personal opinion. You should now introduce him to classics such as Jules Vernes adventures, he will love them!
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. He reads classics too but he has not read the one you suggested. My son is popular in school because of his reading habit and his librarians too try to give him books even on the days when it's not his turn. Now, he is in school so later I will let you know the names of the books you wanted to know.
Though reading habit is good, it becomes a problem when the child fails to restrain himself for his regular studies. I have to always restrict him because he fails to control his temptation of reading storybooks.
True Shampa, restraint from reading books when they should be playing or doing some other thing does become a problem at times, but can be dealt with by remaining firm and insisting on some proper play time and study time etc.
I am sure he will love Jules Verne adventures, you may have heard of them such as Around the World in Eighty Days, Journey to the Centre of the Earth etc. which have also been adapted rather nicely into films.
Kalyani, I conveyed your suggestion to my son and the response I received from him is that he is in search of those books but they are not available in his school library. So, I have to arrange them for him. He loves to read Shakespeare as well as Roald Dahl. Well, he has read the abridged version of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey in prose form. As you wanted to know the names of some books, my son told me about the Percy Jackson books based on Greek mythology written by Rick Riordan.

In Delhi it is around 44 degrees and it's terrible. The Delhi government has ordered for early summer vacation in schools from 11th May due to this severe summer. I agree with the members who have blamed the designing and construction of the modern buildings, ignoring the importance of natural resources as well as the ridiculous thought process of the authorities.

Media has no sense of professional ethics or morality left any more, all they are concerned with is increasing their TRPs by revealing sensational and confidential documents without the least concern that such documents may harm national security and interest. The media and whoever in those respective government agencies who leak out such documents must be held accountable and punished if needed.

There is a saying. What has been taken from the Nature should be given back to Nature. But humans in the name of Development, are plundering the nature in all possible ways and forgotten To give back what he has taken. The tree felling during building a new Township, is supposed to be repaid by way of Afforestation. But the humans did not pay the Nature. For this, fault he is repaying for his deeds. The furious Nature has its own ways to punish the man who disrupted the Natural cycle. Tsunamis to severe summers and winters, droughts are some of the examples of Nature fury.

In case of true Science, there is no question of faith. We do not need to have faith in mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, astronomy because these are really sciences. Also there cannot be regional versions of Sciences like Indian Physics, Chinese Physics and so on in the manner you have Indian astrology, American Astrology, Arabic astrology and so on. Then will palmistry and numerology provide same results as given by astrology.

Of Course, that factor of being selfish inDowry taking is prevalent in all communities of AP. That's an evil. The fault lies with Dowry givers too. Offering Dowry is nothing short of Buying the Grooms. This Dowry may be in different forms. Offering a few Shares in the in laws illegal Business to sending a good for nothing commodity known as Son in Law to a foreign country where only such unworthy people are given seat for a price.
