The Bihar cases is pathetic but at the same time we find students coming for higher education from different universities in Bihar , to Bangalore and here in Mangalore are not lacking ! However, educational system was neglected during Lalu Raj, that's for sure and I have heard many Biharis say so. This is a wake up call for them and they may be able to control the damage with some timely measure , at least the future students would be better ..

There is no medical evidence to suggest that drinking water while standing is bad for health ..Ayurveda may have had its reasons but the blogs that are given as links simply state things and not say why it is so ...The worry is that drinking water standing causes GERD according to these articles. But I looked up several articles on GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease ) but failed to find any connection between drinking water either standing or otherwise to this condition ..

Indian kids dominate most spelling bee contests in USA and we often see and read about those successful and super intelligent kids. But is it really good for them? Or for those who do not win. Probably, there is another side to these contests worth reading about!

There have been many debates about this and I recently saw a discussion on an Arab channel Al zaeeera where educationists shared different view points. Chinese beat Indians in this because they are extremely competitive and in their bid to become world leaders they leave no stone unturned and believe in starting young. the children are mentally tortured and terrorised as seen in some videos that are there on youtube . I guess Indians are going to same way..Personally I feel that the more relaxed the home and school atmosphere is the better students perform and become better individuals. Afterall a complete personality is not just about getting top marks and knowing your grammar and spelling. From what I have seen most f the students who get ranks in SSLC and Pre University are way down when it comes to competitive exams where common sense and intelligence is far more important than mere mugging..I always advise my students to take part in everything possible that interests them , be it debating, dramatics, music or whatever takes their fancy rather than limit themselves just to studies and study relate topics and interests !

@ vijay , you are right, My wording may have been wrong , what I actually meant was that the IAS officers have certain responsibilities towards their office, which is dealing with national issues , it also includes law and order and security of the country. Of course they have to have the freedom to bring any wrongdoings to the notice of concerned authorities which is what Ashok Khemka did ..

Why single out Indians. They are as unique as any other community.

Not right at all. The food pipe internal construction regulates in coming material and pushes it down in spasm mode. One can drink and eat while standing on one's head because of this mechanism. Rambabu wants us to believe that what you put in the mouth falls into the stomach like it would fall in an empty vessel. And what have the poor kidneys done to get damaged. They are outside the stomach not inside !! Why pull fast ones in name of Ayurveda.

Going and settling in foreign countries for better opportunities in living, financial gains and better education system is not wrong. The main reason is parent's bent of mind. Many are of the wrong impression that intimidating, pressurizing and other negative practices will help in shaping the child bright and intelligent. This is anything but truth. The age old belief "Dandam Dasa Gunam Bhavate" that is punishing the child will yield Ten positive results should be stopped.

Educational system is not in dire straits as is being alleged by Rambabu. Negative news makes headlines. As someone involved in education field I find that there are adequate number of good institutes all over the country churning out the right quality of graduates in needed quantities. It is the rest who think or are pushed due to money power or otherwise that they can also become graduates, when they should have stopped after 12th and gone into vocational courses. A studentin our society has passed 12th with 38% marks. When I suggested his father that put him in some vocational / trade course he said he is getting him admitted in BSc course and after that he will do MSc in polymer science!!!

While we stand and drink water water flows easily and in great volume. This creates an impact on the lower stomach walls. If the practice is continues, Kidneys will be damaged.

Weakness in parents character comes out in students behaviour and personality. Comparing with other children is a sure way of inducing hostility in one's children towards a host of emotional feelings. But in this particular case the Indians who run away from India to settle in foreign countries want to excel there through their children. Most of the immigrants had either an inferiority complex or a few had a superiority complex when they rejected their motherland to settle abroasd. It then comes out on the children.

Education system in general is really in dire straits. An alarming situation prevails in the country that should be handled in the right time. If the situation goes on like this, in a few decades entire Bharat will become Bihar. or may be worse.

@Usha is wrong in stating that IAS have certain responsibilities towards the ruling party. In fact they have none. It is because some of them assume so that rot starts. Such IAS's are exploited by politicians and re4warded with plum postings. If that was the case why was Khemka going against the then ruling party. He was rightly following the law for which a vindictive government was punishing him.

The stomach is an independent organ which does not change its features whether one is sitting, standing or sleeping. So it is not clear why it should matter whether one drinks water standing or sitting. An answer is not provided.

While what has happened is surely laughable but it also brings out the fact that education is recognised as necessary possession for moving on in life Here it looks certain that in collusion with officials the coaching class owners have got the answer books replaced. Bihar's name has been sullied. Many years back I new one person who told me that he had got his son's 12th exam one paper replaced and had shelled out a few thousand rupees. his son got good marks became an engineer and is happily serving abroad, So while Bihar is getting flakes rightly situation is similar though may bec on a small scale.

Funny. I'm unable to control my laugh. Of course what more one can expect from a class 10 topper from Bihar. The same topper will go further and ,become big officer or a politician to continue the age old tradition of Lalu. What a pitiable condition prevails in Bihar. Of course, there are some more States in the same condition, but Bihar tops the list.
