Yes, they are one of my favorite flowers, here in Maharashtra too they are planted by almost everyone with space to spare and are a must around temples too. Although now slowly, these desi lovelies are being slowly replaced by the Hawaiian beauties :) who are more showy!

Kalyani Nandurkar created new topic Birth Centenary of Dr. S. M. Pandit, the great painter of India!.
This year is the birth centenary of one of the greatest painters of India, Dr. S. M. Pandit. He was born on 25th March 1916 and died on 30th March 1993. After a full and illustrious career in advertising and illustrations, he turned to paint what he was passionate about, a series of paintings on mythological subjects, such as Radha-Krishna, Nala-Damayanti, and Vishwamitra-Menaka etc. Although I am a fan of all of his paintings, my personal favorite is his lifesize painting of Swami Vivekananda which he did for the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. It is simply a masterpiece. He has successfully captured the divine essence and purity of Swamiji's personality perfectly well in the painting.
The reason I floated this thread is to post invitation of the retrospective exhibition of Panditji's paintings which is to be showcased in the Jehangir Art Gallery, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai starting from Tuesday 7th June next week till 13th June. This is actually a once in a lifetime opportunity to see his paintings. I say that because his paintings are being exhibited after 25 years, the last one was held in Pune at which time, he himself was present. The current show is organised by Panditji's son Shri. Krishnaraj Pandit and his grandson Aditya Chari. Although one can see some of his paintings in the private family-owned museum in Gulbarga, Karnataka, this show will showcase paintings lent by many of the art collectors which can otherwise never be seen. So if any of you can make it during this period, do visit the show and enjoy a visual feast. It is indeed a rare opportunity.

My dear KalyaniI am pleasantly surprised you would start a forum thread to thank me for the gift; but in reality, it should be me who would thank you for being such a lovely friend. I am glad you liked the gift! My dear Boddunan family,Thank you very much for your lovely comments and praises for my small gesture. In fact I would like to share how I met Kalyani. I joined boddunan.com in July 2009 with the aim of earning few bucks; but never could i have ever thought I would earn few friends. I donot maintain many friends virtually, but a select few I keep and one among them is Kalyani. I met her through Atul Barapatre somewhere around December 2009 and what clicked among us was the love for the Language English! I would share antidotes with kalyani and we would be giggling our way out online! This year marks 7 years of Knowing her and since it is a leap year, I wanted to do something memorable. As a co-incidence, Kalyani sent me some details of art along with her postal address which then I thought would surprise her and thanks to online portal paytm.com; i could be able to send a small gift to her for her birthday!!! I wanted to send something very worthy like a diamond set, but I could manage to send something under my budget!!! (Sorry for the disappointment Kalyani!!!) Even though I have not met Kalyani, she has been with me through thick and thin and her words of encouragement to me has always been like sweet water on a parched land. Thanks Kalyani for being a wonderful woman! I wanted you all to know, I tried to be friends with Gulshan ji (the simplistic taxman I would call him) and also Chinmoy ji (the charming poet) and Ram Babu gaaru (The artist). Chinmoyji has been cheering me every time I am down and Ram Babu gaaru would greet me now and then on boddunan. I have also to thank Sandhya Rani from kerala, who would have fun trying to analyze if Chinmoy ji was married or not (remember the old threads) and Sandhya would team up with Kalyani to help me lose my weight by gifting me an electric mosquito bat (where is it by the way??!!) I know I am getting way too emotional, but due to my time constraints I am not able to spend much time with my boddunan family. If i am not present in Boddunan, boddunan is not taken away from me!!!(This is my line which I had shared with Atul). I still remember the first boddunan get together and second boddunan get together where I was prevailed to Meet Maverick!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thank you all , once again for the lovely words! P.S- I can still be friends with those who donot know me....

What is happening now is horse trading done by both the above said parties and Modi has no part to play there

Yes, Usha, it is a positive sign of changing attitudes. In Pune and Mumbai, majority of students opt to work at summer jobs which prepare them fro future careers and help shape their personality.

It might seem ideal today but it is the right way to go... I know that upper class Indians and now even Middle class have joined them, are averse to vocational training and related professions, but that doesn't mean we give up trying. A country will remain productive and progress in the right direction only as long as people work hard with their own hands. Even if office jobs are the ones only pursued, there will still be things needed to produced, food grown with hands and I am sure, parents who can think and reason logically will understand importance of vocational training. Once IT sector was the most wanted, it still is, but during the recession period, we have seen how fragile that industry is. And there are hundreds of examples around us where young people who are innovative and enterprising are making more money in own businesses than such glamorous jobs. Not just making money for themselves, but providing livelihood to others, which is more important than any such job.

While it is true that Switzerland earns a lot through banking, it is not the main or the only source of income . I know this a little better than you since my daughter lives there with her husband who is a citizen and I have visited the place 5 times already . Apart from that a family friend is part of a banking organization in Bern and we discuss the ins and outs , that is as much as he can possibly reveal. Switzerland is into every kind of industry possible , so banking is just one source of its income .

Now, Modi government completed 2 years. It's time to look towards more important issues like Welfare and security of the country than bashing the Congress..
