The last week has been a traumatic period for the world. There have been at least 5 terror attacks and in one of the most reprehensible incidents an old 85-year-old French priest was killed with a knife by a Jihadist who claimed allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The French have declared an extension of the state of emergency  but have not explicitly stated that the attack is motivated by Islamic fundamentalism. The same thing has happened in Germany. 4 attacks by extremist lone wolf Muslim migrants has led to  revulsion and made the German people think. But Angela Merkel has not identified the source of these attacks as inspired by Muslim extremism. There is thus a marked reluctance  to name Islam as a source of terror. The reasons for this are myriad, but lurking behind is the fear that any identification of Islam as a source of terror may create greater bloodshed. Views of Tump Donald Trump is the GOP nominee for the post of President. He is a different kettle of fish as can be made out by his statements. He differs from the Democratic party whose leader Obama and now Hillary hesitates to single out Islam as a motivating force for terror attacks. The approach of Obama can be seen from a small incident. When President Hollande visited the USA, he in a press conference used the word, Islamic terror. The White house in a press release omitted the word Islamic and only let the word Terror remain. Subsequently, after a hue and cry, the word Islamic was restored, but just about shows that the USA under Obama just failed to identify the source of terror. The GOP nominee Donald Trump to the chagrin of many has clearly stated that Muslims are the source of terror, the world over. He has also praised Saddam Hussein in an address at Louisana, as a man who knew how to deal with Muslim extremists like Al Qaeda. Donald mentioned that Saddam did not read the rule book to the terrorists, but simply hanged them. He was an efficient killer of terrorists. Earlier Donald had said the world was a better place when Gaddafi and Saddam were around. I don't thnk he can be faulted for this as things in the Middle East were certainly better when the duo of Gadafi and Saddam were around. Donald has also stated that he would take on Islamic fundamentalism head-on.  He would debar Muslims from entering the USA till they proved their  bonafide's. He would also take the battle to the  sanctuaries of the extremists and destroy them. He would mete out the same treatment to the Muslim extremists or Jihadists as they meted out to their non-Muslim prisoners. These are strong statements and many in the USA are also against this rhetoric, but the common American seems to identify with Donald and that  is the reason the man won primary after primary and the GOP nomination. The latest polls also show that he has taken a 5 point lead over his rival Hillary. Trump is a little brash, but being temperate is not his strength and the white voter see him as a man who will restore the pristine glory of the white race  and ipso facto the USA. The future Nobody can forecast the future. Donald may maintain his lead and win or he may win the popular vote and still lose like Al Gore who won the popular vote but lost to Bush. This is because of the peculiar nature of the US election where the voting is by an electoral college where the states which a candidate wins gets the entire electoral votes of that state. However Trump has raised cogent issues and like or dislike, what he has stated cannot be brushed under the carpet. Even if Hillary wins she will have to consider the effect of Trump's campaign. Many claim Trump is a man with little knowledge and some even have referred to him as a buffoon. This  is a sad commentary on the American people and means that half the American people support a buffoon? Not likely and this propaganda must be shelved as unworthy of replying. But the fact that Trump is in the finals is itself a pointer and means he has a real chance of becoming president of the USA. All said and done, Donald is the first man in the west to identify the source of terror and that by itself is not a mean feat. I wonder if any in India , in particular, the Congress party can take a leaf out of this book.

I still have memories of my college days and they are the best ones. Not because it was fun but because of the rigorous development we had to undergo. I was a business management student and from day one our college staff was clear that we can have fun only after the work is done!  It was the most exhilarating time that made me realize that we can achieve so much than what we set for. If you are a student of business management, it is safe to assume you aim to achieve something big in life. I have hardly come across any student of business management who aims low and wants to stay that way. Every one in this field knows that there is a lot to gain in business be it the corporate world or the entrepreneurial arena. And in order to get somewhere it takes hard work, knowledge and a great deal of perseverance. This is the reason one has to clear multiple rounds of aptitude tests, group discussions and interviews before any candidate is selected. These selection rounds are also a nightmare every business student dreads. How does one prepare for such rounds on a budget? Surely not everyone is fluent in speaking, or knows everything. Is there a way for students to find resources without breaking the bank? Well, keep reading if you want to know more. If you are serious to get placed with a good company, you need not attend high end coaching classes or pay an exorbitant tuition fee. You need to utilize resources that are around you. These five study resources are not only inexpensive but are easily available and will help immensely during job selection and interview rounds.   1. Newspaper: Do you remember writing an essay about the newspaper as a kid. Well, believe every word you wrote! The daily newspaper is a goldmine of information for business management students and if you haven't made this a habit yet, start now! And read the whole paper. Yup, you heard me, the whole paper, top to bottom, left to right, section to section and page to page. Now you might be thinking; What???You can't be serious! Oh yes I am! Every paper comes in not only with news, it's much more than that. Newspapers are a medium to give updates, share opinions, important news, local events, religious beliefs, sports updates, corporate news and last but not least the editors message. Every article has a different style of wording in it. Every article is written to communicate something. For example: An article reporting an attack will have words expressing remorse, fear, frustration and anxiety, even though it was meant to communicate facts. A business report on a company making loss will use assertive wordings of hope and will mention their future plan to boost income. An article on sports will praise sportsmanship and will report how the match was played in order to emphasize the effort it took to win. If you want to develop vocabulary for aptitude tests, prepare for an interview and learn to ace group discussions; look no further my friend than your daily newspaper. And yes when you are done reading the paper, there is no harm in playing the games in there!   2. News Channels: I never understood why did we need several news channels that run 24 x 7 and 365 days a year. I mean why? And all of them relay the same news! My professor once pointed out that the same story can be said in different words and it will impact your way of looking at it. Our opinions are formed by using all our senses, audio and visual etc. Trust me not all channels out there will help you, but there are some really good ones that you need to tune in and learn. Just like newspapers are essential to improve your reading and vocabulary; news channels are essential in developing controlled body language. Remember we are talking of resources that are easily available. Switch on any news channel and observe how the orator reads news. Their modulation of tone and face gestures when good news like peace treaties, match wins, successful rescue operations are mentioned and then observe how they handle the not so good news about someone being hurt, or the death of a celebrity. Secondly, look at how debates are done on these channels. Each debate had to be moderated and each participant needs to present the facts. Look at how these participants put across their points. In any debate, the moderator and audience ( that is you ) will be inclined to listen to the more dominant participant who acts assertively, speaks simple yet logical language and who mentions facts correctly. You will develop reasoning power, a way with words and will learn to use positive body language through this medium. Not to mention you will get updated with the current news. Remember, just because you are in business management you don't need to speak like thesaurus! Simple language with confidence and accuracy of facts! That's what management is about.    3. College Library : Okay, I'll just put it out there. No one likes their college library and the only times I have entered it was when I had to get some research done for my projects or when friends would beg me to use my card for a book they wanted. I did waste my time, but I changed my ways when I saw one of my batch mate who was a Hindi speaking guy and was weak in English coming out with a novel.  I looked at him and said, wow you have time for that? He just smiled and left. I saw him the next day behind the college stairs reading loudly to himself and going over and over some passages he thought were difficult. This guy was placed from college in a really good company with a higher package because he was the first to clear the group discussion round. Imagine that! Books are your friends for life in this field- we have safely established that by now. And your college library will have the most expensive books, magazine subscriptions, alumni assignments, not to mention so many case studies for no extra cost to you. If your college does not have a library, then please go to your local library. Libraries might be an outdated concept but they are the best resource you can get without going broke.   4. Internet: When I was in management school, the internet was not so popular. We did have an internet cafe but those were the times when Orkut was still around. Now the internet is a different tool all together. The problem is advanced tools and technology creates more competition. Nevertheless, this comes handy when you look for the right things. There is no dearth of free learning resources on the internet. Gone are the days when recruiters used to look for candidates whom they could teach. These days  candidates who know it well are in demand. You need to up your game by updating your knowledge and learning presentation of ideas. The internet is the only source where you get to have mock interviews, extensive case studies, free aptitude tests, personality scores and many helpful blogs and videos that can help you prepare for not only interviews but even on work projects. And this doesn't cost much at all. Need I say more?   5.Business Magazines: And last but not least, get your hands on as many business magazines as you can. Yes, vocabulary is important. Yes, group discussion skills are important, but you need to understand where you stand. When I was being interviewed for campus placement, my nerves were all over the place. And as I was about to enter, my placement officer asked me - have you decided on what to ask them if they tell you to ask anything? I was like um, no! And he gave me a business magazine with the company's profile in it and said in a disapproving tone...sit and read! I did! I read word for word and asked my friends to cross question me till I was confident. Well, I got selected that day but it was like I was saved on razor's edge. I have never given up on researching and reading beforehand since then. You are about to dive into a world of business where corporate strategies are key. And no other resource can give you better insight than business magazines. The best case studies, the best interviews, the best cause-effect analysis and stock market reviews are here. Don't ignore them. Read them, study them, analyze them. Corporate laws and corporate dynamics are best learnt from here. Statistics is another key point that is discussed in depth and it helps a lot.   Conclusion: All in all, you have limited time to study so use it wisely. Most of the students I have worked with seem to have their line of interest well-defined and they work only for it.As a student, you will be tempted to only go through resources which interest you, but challenge yourself and you will be amazed how good you can be. Try to learn things which you don't know. Go online and find information on the topic and keep searching till you understand it. Ask professors for help. Practice and keep taking feedback from peers, seniors, professors. Try to improve what you can as soon as you can.Form study groups and discuss and you will be surprised on much you can develop your self. That too on a dime...now that's something my friend! All the best and do let me know if article helped!

The story of Atlantis in a nutshell is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside of an enigma. However, Atlantis is no small, run-of-the-mill mystery. The alluring appeal of this story of a sunken civilization serves a truly powerful cocktail of fact and fiction, myth and history, legend and allegory and last but not the least natural and supernatural. The combination and juxtaposition of so many crucial elements within the confines of one single saga makes for a truly gripping read and still inflames the chariot of curiosity of an octogenarian much the same way it does that to an adolescent even today. However, what makes the mystery of Atlantis so special is the fact that scientists and explorers alike are still at loggerheads in determining whether this tale of a Utopian society is indeed true or the entire story is a subtle premonition to all the future civilizations in the form of a grandiose allegory. Quite unlike other legendary civilizations whose genesises have either been lost or are still shrouded in the labyrinthine passages of time, the storied details of Atlantis and its very origin can easily be traced to two of Plato’s works that is, “Timaeus” and “Critias” written about 330 B.C. However, the original story actually predates even the life and career of Plato. This lost civilization was said to have existed some 9000 years before Plato’s time which placed it within the furthest corner of remote antiquity. According to Plato the story had been passed down for generations by poets, priests and many others. However, Plato’s account of Atlantis is the only known source of information to us so far in this regard. According to Plato, this highly advanced civilization was located beyond the “Pillars of Hercules” (Strait of Gibraltar) on an island in the Atlantic Ocean with a combined size more than that of Libya and Asia put together. Clearly it must have been an island continent floating in the Atlantic Ocean if we are to go by Plato’s account in this very context. To begin with, Atlantis owed its origin to Poseidon (the Hellenic God of Sea) who consorted with Cleito and had five sets of twins out of their wedlock. The island continent and the surrounding ocean were named after their firstborn, Atlas. The capital of the island continent i.e., Atlantis stood out for its architectural brilliance and innovative engineering. Everything was going well in this prehistoric Elysium when some 9000 years before the time of Plato decadence and moral bankruptcy started to take firmer roots within the inhabitants of this island continent, who were otherwise a technologically sophisticated race. Being enraged at what they saw the Hellenic Gods decided to teach them a lesson which would take the Atlanteans beyond all sorts of redemption and salvation. A violent earthquake combined with cataclysmic tidal waves arising out of a possible tsunami dealt a death blow to this archipelago and the island nation sank within the span of a single day into the unfathomable depths of the sea to be seen never again. And thus ends the physical existence of Atlantis from the face of the Earth.  However, much like a hydra-headed monster, the mystery of Atlantis resurfaces again after passing almost two millennia of hibernation that borders on near-anonymity. But with the publication of Atlantis: the Antediluvian World in 1882 Ignatius Donnelly truly set the cat among the pigeons afresh by hypothesizing that all known civilizations of yore must have descended from one technologically advanced, superior culture namely Atlantis. Donnelly was not content with yet. And his outrageous claims soon assumed a biblical proportion as he audaciously drew parallels between the Great Flood mentioned in the Bible with the one that eventually destroyed and wiped out this so called fountainhead of almost all the prominent ancient civilizations. Donnelly’s theory received much acclaim and triggered a chain of occultists and theosophists alike whose voices resonated with ideas linked with that great lost civilization called Atlantis.  Other noted personalities who not only took up the cudgels for Atlantis but were also credited with adding a distinct speculative spin of their own to this entire saga of fact and fantasy included occultist Madame Blavatsky ("The Secret Doctrine", 1888) and psychic Edgar Cayce. Cayce made a series of startling predictions connected with Atlantis. He also alleged to have predicted that Atlantis would rise again during the decade of 1960 which triggered a wave of popularity surrounding the mystery of Atlantis. Another tantalizing remark of Cayce informed us that there is a "Hall of Records" beneath the Egyptian Sphinx, which holds the historical texts of Atlantis.  The story of Atlantis and its spin offs were so powerful that the impact of its spillover could be noticed even in other fields of work notably in English literature. The concept of an imaginary, idealistic world only to be used as a benchmark for other future civilizations captured the imagination of common mass as well as the writers of Renaissance period. With Sir Thomas More the “Utopia” (1516) came into being only to connote a Platonic idealistic land where men and women are accepted as paragon of virtue. “The New Atlantis” (1626) by Francis Bacon, though unfinished, is another addition in the tradition of Sir Thomas More’s “Utopia”. The title of the work by Bacon is, quite understandably, an allusion to the mythical land mentioned by Greek philosopher Plato in his works “Timaeus” and “Critias”. It is a sheer irony of fate that in spite of having so much of information about Atlantis we are still at odds even over the specific location of the destroyed metropolis and its adjoining areas. And it is truly confounding to note that the same set of information (Plato’s account) has led to so many differing interpretations and opinions on the same subject and its specifics. The entire matter assumes a proportion of incredulity when taken into account the mind-boggling advancements made in oceanography and ocean floor-mapping technology. Possible locations of Atlantis range from Atlantic Ocean to Mediterranean Sea to Europe to Indonesia to Bermuda Triangle again. Even some have opined that Antarctica might be the possible site of the apocalypse. However, in concrete terms nothing has so far been discovered that comes even close to being called Atlantis. It is totally understandable that our oceans do contain as well as suppress a lot of arcane information yet given the progress made in the field of oceanography how is it possible to hide a landmass that is more than the size of Asia and Libya put together is a very pertinent question.  Among all the probable sites for Atlantis the one which comes closest to Plato’s description in terms of scientific acceptance is the Greek island Santorini (ancient Thera) where volcanic eruption puts paid to the Minoan Empire around 1500 B.C. The Minoan civilization had all the matching characteristics of Atlantis mentioned by Plato in his works. However, in order to match Atlantis with that of Minoan civilization we have to address one big “if”.  According to Plato the island Kingdom of Atlantis disappeared some 9000 years before his time while the Minoan Empire was almost a contemporary civilization of Plato. This glaring mismatch in historical period has been explained by some Atlantean experts as mere anachronism on the part of Plato and nothing else. However, in doing so other relevant information starts to contradict and we end up exactly where we started in the beginning.  This apparent failure to locate this island of continental dimension has led many to question the historicity of the entire account afresh. According to this school of thought the entire Atlantis thing is a moral fable designed to serve a Delphic premonition to all the future civilizations about the perils of moral decadence and decrepitude. Explanations come and explanations go but the story of Atlantis like the pole star remains elusive and yet constant. Unless and until we find satisfactory answers to all the questions, the mystery and conundrum of Atlantis will continue to tease and haunt us forever. I believe the answer remains seated in the womb of future and thus the mystery remains…………………...

Kashmir state was a part of the empire of Maharajah of Punjab, Ranjit Singh. Earlier it was a part of the Mughal empire and Jahangir the emperor loved the place and compared it to paradise on earth. Thus Kashmir was a part of India for many centuries. When we say India, we refer to the composite India which consisted from Baluchistan to Assam. During the days of the Raj, Kashmir was a semi-autonomous region but defense and foreign affairs were exercised by the Raj and overall suzerainty was with the English. In 1947 with the lapse of British power as per the terms of the transfer of power as incorporated in the Government of India act, passed by the British parliament, the Indian semi-independent states were given the option to either join India or Pakistan. This was in 1947, but Maharajah Hari Singh decided that he wanted total independence and thus did not accede to either India or the newly created state of Pakistan. He signed a "standstill agreement", with both nations. Pakistan, however, invaded Kashmir and a panic-stricken Maharajah signed the instrument of accession to India. One point that must be mentioned is that Kashmir had a Hindu ruler, but the majority of the subjects were Muslim. In addition in Indian Kashmir, the valley was 90% Muslim. The rise of the insurrection The roots of this insurrection in Kashmir lie in 1971 when the liberation of Bangladesh took place. There is no doubt the Punjabi elite that ruled Pakistan treated Bangladesh unfairly, but the Indian leadership led by Indira Gandhi decided that India could exploit the dissatisfaction in East Pakistan and break the nation into two. A plan was hatched to infiltrate special forces into East Pakistan and stir up local sentiment as well as align with the Mukti Bahini a Bengali outfit demanding secession from Pakistan.  Indian special forces operated inside East Pakistan for almost 2 years. The result is known as a war took place and the Pakistan army outnumbered 4-1 was defeated. Pakistan just cannot forget the Indian role in the creation of Bangladesh and that is the reason it has embarked on a policy to avenge the breakup of Pakistan. The man who gave effect to this policy was General Zia-ul-Haq, the dictator of Pakistan after Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (he had got him executed after a farcical trial). Zia decided that tribal Mujahedin from the NW frontier should enter Kashmir and instigate the local Kashmiri youth to take up arms against the Indian state. In a way, it was a shrewd move and the Indians failed to grasp the full impact of the move of Zia.  The Indian government at that time did not take the threat seriously and matters were compounded by rigged elections by Farouk Abdullah and Rajiv Gandhi. The Kashmiri youth, in particular, began to feel alienated as there was no development in Kashmir and no jobs for the youth. They also saw the crores of rupees were being siphoned away by corrupt politicians. Another big factor was religion as the Mujahedin who entered the valley played on the sentiments of the Muslims by invoking Islam and Jehad against the infidels( Hindus). Islam has tremendous appeal and even many who were erudite and as well as the intellectuals began to support Pakistan. The Indian government was caught napping as the Hindu minority in the valley was terrorized. Loudspeakers from mosques warned Hindus of dire consequences and also announced that they would allow the men to leave but the women and girls should stay back and become wives of the Kashmiri Muslims. Thus an ethnic cleansing started and almost 200,000 Hindus had to leave the valley. Indian government led by Narasimha Rao, Vajpayee and Man Mohan Singh failed to stop the killing of Hindus and the resultant exodus.  Thus, Pakistan gained a vantage point in Kashmir and began a free supply of arms and money to disaffected Kashmiri youth. In short, the Indian government by a policy of appeasement signed its own warrant of disaster. The Insurrection Pakistan invoked the name of Islam and openly supported the activities of various groups inimical to India. it set up over a 100 training camps in Punjab and Kashmir for imparting military training. In addition, die hard tribals from the so called Azad Kashmir entered the valley to engage the Indian security forces. The result is that not a day passes without some soldiers being killed. The gun culture was allowed to be set up in Kashmir and I am afraid it has a lot to do with the weak-kneed policy of the central government. There is supposed to be a government in Kashmir, but it appears powerless as Muslim separatists at will call for strikes and many times indefinite curfew is imposed. No Indian citizen can walk in the valley alone or travel in peace. This is a severe indictment of India and one wonders how long this situation will carry on.  The Indian army is thought of as an occupying force and also the local Kashmir youth are donning the garb of freedom fighters and joining the terror movement.  It's about time the Indian government realized that you can't run with the hare and hunt with the hound. There has to be a decisive step and the first casualty is the removal of the Kashmir government of PDP and BJP. This conglomeration has compounded the adverse situation. I do not visualize any solution to the Kashmir problem until Pakistan is defeated or itself breaks into smaller countries. Easier said than done as India is now on the horns of a dilemma.

Government of India feeding J&K since Independence. But peoples of Kashmir have not confidence in India. In my opinion abolishing of section 370 is best solution of Kashmir problem. People of Kashmir can be kept busy only with development of state and development of state is not possible with source of Kashmir.
