History of Jaipur
Jaipur Is the capital of Rajasthan and the city was beautifully planned. Sawai Jai Singh founded the city in the year 1927. The architecture of the entire city is in pink color and so Jaipur is known as "The Pink City'. Jaipur is famous for its gharanas of music, paintings and of the craftsmen. But today it is also famous for its cuisine, jewellery and of the textiles. Sawai Jai singh was the ruler of the Amber Fort which is now one of the tourist attractions. Jaipur has innumerable ancient stories of the sagas and its culture. The whole city was planned according to the vaastu. Sawai Jai Singh II gave the planning of the jaipur city into the hands of a Bengali Brahmin Scholar Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya. This Bengali Brahmin designed many buildings of Jaipur which includes the Royal Palace in the centre of the city.
It took around four years to complete the palaces, roads and the squares. Jaipur has a division of nine blocks. Among these nine blocks two blocks contain the palaces and the state building and other seven blocks were used by the public. The city was surrounded by huge walls and seven gates. The city has its own charm and is well lighted.
Main sights of Jaipur
1. Hawa Mahal- Jaipur is visited by lots of tourist from every corner of the world. The main attraction of Jaipur is the Hawa Mahal which is situated on the main road. The mahal is in the form of the crown of the Lord Krishna. There are many small windows inside the Hawa Mahal from where one could get the view of the street and the markets. Hawa Mahal is also called the Palace of Winds. Many small and large markets are situated beside the Mahal. Where one could get the handicraft item of Jaipur.
2. Amer Fort- It was once the capital state of Jaipur- It is situated 11km from Jaipur in the town of Amer and has become the best tourist attraction. It is situated on the high hills. it was built by Raja Man SinghI in the year of 1592. One could find the beautiful Indian architecture inside the fort. From the top of the fort the whole Jaipur can be visible and also the beautiful Maota Lake is situated near the fort. Inside the fort one could see "Diwan- e- Aam", Diwan-e-Khas", Shees Mahal and the Sukh Niwas where one could geet the cool weather almost all throughout the year.
3. Jaigrah Fort- It is situated just above the Amer Fort on the Arvalli Range. There is a "Surang" from Amer which connects to the Jaigarh Fort. tThis passage was used byt he royals families of that time to escape when any enemies attack the fort at the time of war. It has a museum which consists of the armour and the cannon factory of that time. One could get to see the big cannon here. The fort consists of a beautiful garden.
4. Nahargrah Fort- It is situated at the edge of the Aravalli Range. The whole city of Jaipur looks beautiful from this fort. This fort was constructed in the year 1734 by Sawai Jai Singh II.
5. Jantar Mantar- Jantar Mantar was built By Sawai Jai Singh II. It was situated in Tripolia Bazaar of Jaipur. Jantar Mantar depicts the astronomical view. During that time there was no clock or watches the rajas used to calculate the time of day and night by this instrument which we could see in Jantar Mantar. The instrument aws built of marble and stone and each instrument has an astronomical scale. It shows the perfect time.
6. City Palace- It was the palace of the Maharaja's. It was built by Sawai Jai Singh II. It lies in the heart of the Jaipur very close to the Hawa Mahal. The city palace includes the Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani's Palace, Shri Govind Dev Temple and the City Palace Museum.
7. Albert Hall- It is situated very close to Bapu Bazaar. It is a museum of Jaipur. The garden is situated just outside the museum which is known as Ram Niwas Garden. The museum has a rich collection of carpets, mummies, paintings, clothes, furniture, metal items and colorful works of crystal. Many pigeons are found around the museum.
8. Shopping- There are many small and large shopping markets in Jaipur. Those who are shopping lovers could enjoy shoppiing here. Jaipur carpets and jewellery are very famous. The marketts shops sold these handicrafts items of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Many local vendors are also found selling the handicrafts items beside the street. Jaipur bangles are famous all over the world. Some markets are Bapu Bazaar, Tripolia Bazaar, Johari Bazaar, Nehru Bazaar, Kishanpol Bazaar etc. These entire bazaars are situated in Old Jaipur.
Transportation
Jaipur is well connected with rail, road and airways. It connects the Delhi-Mumbai highway. Many tourists' buses are available from Delhi. The railways are well connected with many major cities of India. Jaipur International airport which is situated in the town of Sanganer serves to the Domestic and the International location. Jaipur metro rail service will soon be started which will help the local people to travel fast.
Food and culture
Jaipur is famous for its special Marwadi dishes. Dal Baati Churma and Gatte ki Sabzi is a special Rajasthani dish. Beside these food one could enjoy the street food. One could also enjoy the sweet dish like Ghewar and Fenni which is very popular and available especially during the festive season. Tourists also enjoy the Missi Roti and Moong Thal. One could enjoy the snacks which is called the Onion Kachori which is full of variety of spices and is very tasty. Jaipur is also famous for its gharansa of Kathak Dance. People here enjoy the festival of Gangaur, Teej and Makar Sankranti. Jaipur bandhni saree, jewellery, stone carving items and the zari work is famous all over the world.
Climate
Jaipur has pleasant weather. It is not soo cold in winter months. But summers are very hot. The city also experience rainfall witht hunder and storm but never gets flooded. The best time to visit Jaipur is in the winter months.
