Cricketing records can be classified into two categories i.e. Asian Records and Non Asian Records. Asian countries have exclusive rights to certain type of records while certain type of records are meant only for Non Asian countries.
Records for Asian Countries:- All records in one day international internationals are meant for Asian countries. The leading run scorers in one day internationals are Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasurya. Again Asians Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasurya and Sourav Ganguly are among the leading century makers in the history of one dayers. When it comes to bowlers Muthian Muralidharan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis are among the top wicket takers in the world.
Records for Non Asian Countries:- One of the most difficult things to achieve as a cricketer is scoring 1000 runs in a calendar year in Test Matches. Batsmen from Australia and England achieve it very comfortably. Playing 100 Test in a career is also considered a hall mark of a great player and again in this aspect cricketers from Australia and England do it very comfortably.
It is no coincidence that Asian countries hold one day records and Australians and Englishmen hold Test Records. The main revenue comes from one dayers and boards of Asian countries focus primarily on money and this results in more one dayers being played. Sachin Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasurya and Wasim Akram have played more one dayers than anybody in the world. When it comes to countries like Australia and England their perception and rightly so is that Test Match is the real game and is a strength of a persons character and skill. These countries play about 10 to 15 Test Matches in a year, because of which playing 100 Tests in a career becomes very easy even if for a batsmen of Athertons calibre. As 10 to 15 Test Matches are played by almost every Australian and England batsmen it becomes easy to score 1000 runs in a calender year. Players belonging to Asian countries too have scored 1000 ore more runs in a year, but they are few and far between.
Though Test Records are held by players of non Asian countries as Sachin Tendulkar and Muthiah Muralidharan hold quite a few records in Tests, but that is mainly because of they are fact that they are genuises in their respective fields and partly because of having had the opportunity to play more number of matches for their countries over a longer career.
