The primary reasons for inception of Twenty20 format was that one dayers have become too long and too predictable. The primary flaw in ODI format was that the middle overs (with the exclusion of Power Play and Slog Overs) were too dull as there were too many dot balls, ones and twos and that was boring for the viewers.
Twenty 20 format especially IPL 2009 onwards seems to be heading on similar lines. In IPL 2009, teams batting first were putting up scores in the region of 110 to 140 with too many dot balls, singles and twos. The chasing was done methodically with ones and twos without any excitement which was what the crowd expected from this new format of the game. In some cases it was even worse when in IPL 2009, Mumbai Indians could not chase a target of 119 set by Kings X1 Punjab. That match was really a poor advertisement for the game. Delhi Daredevils batting first in The Champions League T20 game played on 9th Oct 2009, could not even score 100 runs in stipulated 20 overs. There were hardly any fireworks in Delhi Daredevils innings for the viewer, and on expected lines the chase was even boring.
Some changes should be made in T20 format by the governing body and teams such as
1) Team should be packed with stroke players. An anchor man is not required in T20 as a batsmen on an average need not last more than 2 overs in this shortened format. The risk of getting bowled out in T20 format is very rare and therefore stroke players can straight away go for their stroles
2) Stonewallers like Akash Chopra should not be accommodated in this format. Accomodating players like him would mean consuming for deliveries setting a lower target and a easy chase without excitement.
2) T20 matches should be played on grounds which produce huge scores.
If the above suggestions are implemented, teams batting first should be able to score in the region of 160 to 200. When a team scores 200 there will be lot of fours and sixes which is want the viewers and paying public want. The chasing team has to play strokes from the beginning to get to the target and that means there will lot of fours and sixes from them too. That would mean that the paying public and viewer gets 40 overs of excitement
