The chief causes of air pollution are the burning of fossil fuels by industries, power stations and automobiles, and industrial processes. Air pollution can be gasses or solid particles. The solid particles suspended in air are called suspended particulates of suspended particulate matter (SPM). Let us now discuss the sources of air pollution.
Air is every where on planet earth. Moving air is called wind. Sea breeze during the day, land gets heated quickly but the sea water does not. The air above the hot land gets heated. This hot air is lighter, so it rises up. Cooler air over the sea rushes in to take its place. Thus, a cool breeze blows to words the land during the day. Land breeze at night, the land cools down faster than the sea. So the sea is warmer than the land. The hot air above the sea rises up. The cooler air form the land blows towards the sea to take its place.
Trees wind the fresh air. Man living from breathing air. Fresh air is best for breath. It will condition in health.
Air is a mixture of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, water vapor, hydrogen and rare gases. Plants use carbon dioxide for making their food and release oxygen into the air. Animals use oxygen and release carbon dioxide, thus the balance of these gases is maintained in the atmosphere.
The air we breathe in must be pure. However, due to smoke and dust, air gets polluted. Polluted air is harmful to health.
Air also contains lots of bacteria and germs, which can’t be seen by naked eye. When you breathe in, these germs enter your body and cause diseases like cough, cold and fever.
Nowadays, air pollution in cities is on the rise. This is due to increase in the number of automobiles on the road. The automobiles release lot of smoke containing carbon dioxide etc. industries discharging smoke and exhaust fumes from their furnaces in to air are also sources of air pollution.
*burning biomass for cooking causes indoor pollution, which affects the health of women and children.
