We see so many people around us. Some of them are happy while some others have some difficulties and they are sad. Compassion means to think about those who are needy and to feel for others. We should feel for not only human beings but animals as well.
Veena was closing the door of her house. It was biting cold outside. One dog was trying to take shelter under their shed. Veena felt sorry for the dog. She allowed it to come inside and give it some bread.
What will you call Veena’s feelings for the dog?
Savita was little girl. She was eleven years old. On her birthday her mother bought her a small piggy bank.
Veena asked her mother what she will do with the piggy bank. Her mother told her she could collect money in the piggy bank for buying a toy. From that day Savita started putting coins in her piggy bank.
Do you know why she was collecting money?
She wanted to buy a present for her mother on her birthday. After months on her mother’s birthday Veena opened her piggy bank.
She had twenty Rupees. She wanted to give her mother a surprise.
She thought she would buy a book for her mother. She went to the book shop. She did not know which book to select. She liked one book. She had seen her mother reading a book of the same writer. She asked the bookseller, ``what is the rate this book?’’
``Fifty Rupees,’’ said the book seller. She placed the book she knew she did not have enough money for the book. Then she thought of buying a nice cake for her mother. She went to a bakery shop. She saw very nice cakes there. She liked one model cake with a small boat made of icing on it. She had looked at that type of cake many times and wanted to buy it.
She asked the shop man, ``How much is this cake?
The man said, ``forty Rupees.’’
``Oh said Savita knew she could not buy the cake also.
She started thinking what to buy for her mother?
Then old woman came near her. She was carrying a small baby. ``He is my grandson. We came from the village. Suddenly he fell sick. All the money that I had has been spent on the medicines.
Now we are not able to go to home,’’ said the old woman.
Savita looked at the old woman and the child carefully.
She really seemed to be in trouble.
``how much money do you need? Savita asked.
``Ten Rupees,’’ said the old woman.
Savita thought, ``Soon it will be dark .then it will be very difficult for this old woman with the small baby to reach home.’’ She took out ten Rupees from her bag and gave that to the old woman.
The old woman was very happy. She blessed Savita and went towards the bus stand.
Now Savita was left with ten Rupees. What could she buy with ten Rupees? She saw a flower shop. She knew her mother loved roses. She bought two rose from there. She was happy that she had helped an old woman. She was also happy that she had bought a lovely present for her other.
