You must have seen these white soft small animals jumping and running like white or black balls of wools. They are shy by nature and either hides themselves in the grass or in their small house that they dig on the earth.
This is a story of partridge that lived under a large Peepal tree. The partridge had made a cozy nest for herself on the ground beneath the tree. It lived there for many years.
One day the partridge left her home in search of food. A little distance from her house there was a rice field. The partridge liked the rip rice very much it did not return to her house for many days as it started living in that field.
While the partridge was away a rabbit found her empty nest. The rabbit did not have a home. So he went to live in the partridge’s nest. He made that as his home and started living there.
When the partridge returned she found her house occupied by the rabbit. She was very angry. She asked ``what are you doing here? This is my house’’.
``Yours house?’’ asked the rabbit, ``I have been living here for any days’’.
``But you can not stay here any more’’ Said the partridge.
``I built the hose, I have always lived here. You can ask anybody.’’
``why should I ask anybody,’’ replied the rabbit. ``I came here; I found that nobody was living in this house. So I started living here. Since I live here, so this is my house. You can ask anybody, I am living here.’’
``No, it is my house,’’ said the partridge. ``I went out in search of food. Now I have comeback, so please get out of my house.’’
``No, I won’t’’ said the rabbit firmly, ``I am not going to leave the house.
The quarrel between the partridge and the rabbit went on for a long time. Many animals listened to the quarrel but none of them could say to whom the house belonged and who should live there. The rabbit and the partridge then decided to go in search of a judge to settle the mater. They walked several miles and came to the banks of the Ganga River. They saw a big cat there. Both the rabbit and partridge were frightened. As soon as the cat saw them, she closed her eyes, stood up on her hind legs holding her prayer beads. And it started praying loudly. Both partridge and rabbit looked at the cat or sometime.
``how nicely she says her prayers,’’ said the rabbit, ``I think we can ask her to judge our case.’’ ``But be careful the cat is our natural enemy’’ said the partridge.
Still they presented their quarrel to the cat. The cat heard them and sat silently for sometime. Then said, ``I am very old, I could not hear you both properly. Please come near and then tell me the story again.’’
In their fight, both the rabbit and the partridge forgot the fear of the cat. They moved close ti it to tell their story once again and before they knew what was happening the cat jumped at them and hit them both with her paws. She killed them and made the fighting partridge and rabbit her food.
So in the fight between themselves they both lost their lives.
