I belong to the genus `Nag’, the ort of snakes supposed to be highly venomous and characterized by the ability of flattens the neck into a hood like from when disturbed.
Till a few months ago I had an object of dread. I would not harm anybody unless they harmed me. If I am angry or frightened, I hiss and thus given men warning of my presence. Many men would have trodden on me if it had not been or fact that I give a loud hiss when anybody comes near. One a person trod on my tail in spite of my hiss and I bit him. He was the only person whom I bit. When he cried in pain, several men rushed to the spot and searched for me. I hid in a hole and escaped being killed.
Now I am quite harmless. One day I as caught by a snake-charmer, who removed my fangs so that I would no longer be poisonous? I am now his captive. I dance with my hood stretched as the snake charmer plays the flute. He shows me to people so as to earn live hood. He usually imprisons me in a basket. He does not give me enough food. I feel very miserable. Many times I have bitten fellow, but to no an avail, I am unable to take revenge on him as I have lost my deadly weapons.
