Today we are in the 21st century and we have a lot much too do in every field. As we all are very much aware of this fact that this is the era of science and technology, new inventions and new development, life is moving at a very fast pace and so changes are often. And to update one with these changes is quite a trick job. One who have smart mind, collective and innovative ideas, quick and is ready to accept the life challenges fits best in this era. This is what we call a smart worker.
There are different kinds of people who have different thinking. Some of them believe that working hard will help them in earning more. And some of them are switched to the ways of smart working.
In my opinion, looking at today’s scenario, I think that being a smart worker is much better than being a hard worker.
In the 70’s and 80’s people preached that hard work is the only route to success. And it was true also. And because of those hard workers only we have reached till here. Now what comes in our mind is that if “hard work is the key to success” then why and where is the need of smart workers. But we didn’t thought that at that time we were not having machines, computers, televisions, telephones and lots of other things for our help and we have to do that all work with our hands, whether it’s a agricultural work or management or business work. But today we have different types of machines, PC’s, laptops, telephones, and various sources of media and transportation services which have made our lives much easier than before. And not just this, it has somewhere lessened the concept of hard work because what we need today is a smart worker who can handle these machines, can operate them and who have tactful skills and smart minds to solve the problems.
Today, in all over the world in every multinational company, there is a huge demand of smart workers. And these companies are ready to pay the desired sum of salary to their employees for their smartness in doing work. Because as an employee one care less about how hard someone works instead of caring about results.
If you are employed or have been employed and attended a team meeting, I bet you have heard following words from your boss- “work smarter, not harder”. That is what I am telling that a smart worker is appreciated everywhere and is rewarded more in compare to a hard worker.
Being a smart worker is not just finishing the work in time. But it needs much more efforts. We have to finish our work in efficient manner, much before deadlines, meeting all expectations and avoiding unnecessary work. This is all what we really need for being a smart worker.
Smart workers are individuals who maximize the resources they have in creative ways to achieve or exceed the desired results within the given span of time. Typically these are ‘out-of-the-box’ thinkers who easily adapt to new challenges. A smart worker does his work perfectly and in addition he also knows when to showcase it so as to take the best out of it. He knows how to to derive benefits out of the efforts.
Many times, people misconceive laggards and backstabbers as smart workers, but they are actually not. They are only parochial opportunists who take advantage of other’s efforts. When I say SMART, I mean the ability to quickly learn new stuff, and to apply the learning in making useful choices or educated guesses not taking the advantage of others.
Yet we can’t neglect hard working people as they are always needed and for being on top and to achieve a position, a smart worker also needs to do hard work. So one needs to be a “Smart Hard Worker”.
