*Albatross
A large seabird with long wings that spends most of its life is in the air over the oceans. They eat mainly squid and settle on water surface to sleep and to feed.
*Ants
An ant is a small insect. Ants are called social insects because they live in large colonies. There many are as many as 10 lakh ants in one set. Ants are very strong and can lift things weighing 50 times their own weight. Some ants build underground tunnels and live there, others build tall anthills. An anthill is a mound of sand and dirt with thousands of rooms.
There are three kinds of ant in a colony, a queen, workers and meals, whish are called drones. The workers are all wingless females. Ants always know members of their colonies by their scent.
*Butterfly
Butterflies are flying insects with brightly colored wings. They feed on nectar from flowers. Most butterflies live for only a short time. All butterflies being their lives as caterpillars which hatch from their eggs. When a caterpillar is fully grown in changes is into chrysalides. Inside the chrysalides, the caterpillars slowly change, into butterflies, break the chrysalides and fly away.
*Dodo
The Dodo was a large bird which once lived on the land island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It could not fly. They were all killed by European sailors who landed in Mauritius in 1507. Their eggs were eaten by the pigs brought by the sailors. Now there are no dodos. They are extinct. The last dodo died in 1681.
*Falcon
A bird of prey was with a sharp beak and claws. Falcons can fly very fast. They eat birds, reptiles and small mammals.
*Flamingos
The flamingos are water birds that have very long neck, long legs and pink or red feathers. They rest on one leg with their head tucked among the feathers.
*Kingfisher
The kingfisher is a very brightly colored bird which lives near water and catches fish.
*Nocturnal
It is Active at night. Bats are nocturnal animals.
*Owl
Owls are birds of prey with large eyes and sharp claws. They hunt most at night. They have soft feathers and make no sound as they fly. Owls usually swallow their prey whole, instead of tearing pieces off. They eat the meat and spit out the fur and bones.
*Peacock
Peacock is a male bird called peafowl. It has long tail feathers of rich blue, green and other colors. It can spread out these in the shape of a fan. The female is called a peahen. Peacock is the National bird of India.
*Quail
Quill is a small, short-tailed, wild bird with brown or grey feathers.
*Toucan
A colorful bird is with a large beak. Toucans rest holes of trees and feed on fruit, insects, small lizards and eggs.
