Almost power scarcity is there in many parts of india. As iam in tamilnadu i know this problem well to an extent.
Tamilnadu is facing serious shortage of power and power cuts are inevitable. Although TNEB says that there will not be powercuts in chennai, it may happen one day. Already in towns and districts outside chennai, power is being cut daily for 2 hours. So people also should take some responsibility and use power when really needed and avoid wastage.
Here are some suggestions for that.
- LED bulbs can be used in houses and offices as it saves almost 90% of the enery when compared to normal bulbs because the heat dissipation in LED bulbs are less.
- In many houses people will be talking in their mobiles while TV will be running and nobody watches it. To avoid this switch on the TV only when somebody is watching. Otherwise switch of the TV completely. Don't put the TV even in standby mode.
- Shopkeepers can close their shops between 8 to 9 and help to save power.
- Political parties can avoid big cuts outs with lamps inserted in it. Whenever some minister or some VIP is coming, political parties used to glow tubelights on the road for minimum 30 kms. These can be avoided.
- During festival times like Diwali or Christmas , shops and houses are decorated with serial lights. This can be avoided as it is not serving good to anybody.
- Street lights can be switched on after darkness comes and switched off early in the morning. Either street lights will not be glowing at all or sometimes it will glow till 10.00 AM in the morning.
- In bathrooms and toilets, zero watt bulbs can be used instead of high power consuming bulbs.
- As summer has started, in everyhouse fans will be ON for almost 24 hours in the day.Instead we can open the doors and windows during day time and use fans only when it is needed.
- In many houses more than one TV will be available. Both TV will be running non stop.Instead people in the house can discuss and have an agreement and watch the programmes in a single TV.
- Government should really think of getting electricity from sunlight and speed up that process to reduce the shortage of power.
- Cinema theatres can cancel the shows starting at 10.00 PM in the night in weekdays. They can run this shows only during weekends.
- Several advertisement boards with lights showing the name of the company will be glown throught the night. They can avoid these lighting boards or atleast reduce the span of time for which it glows.
- Computers in cybernet cafes can be switched on only when there is a user. Otherwise it can be switched off.
- Youngsters can avoid watching television or computer very late in the night. This will preserve some power as well as their health.
