How do you say, that a person really is mentally healthy, and not ill, give your opinions. And what do you think, is the majority of the population mentally healthy or ill?
In my opinion in our current society you need a lots of luck and blessing to be healthy, Because I think I have come to point of mental health quite lately, and I must say, it is much thanks to a great deal of coincident. And by this health I mean just being happy, most things really don't bother me enough to make me nervous and yet its not, its just, all's cool and even though I see a lots of things very wrong in this world, my own happiness helps me to manage with it. Now, why I think the majority is ill? Well, firstly, we have laws, and we really need them, a healthy person in my opinion could live without killing and stealing already thanks to his heart and feelings, yet most people can't do it, moreover many try to find how to get pass the law to hurt others. Moreover, this has lead us to many idiotic laws, which very many people follow because of being afraid of the law, I know that most likely this is not a very traditional way of looking at it and there is many more qualities for mental health.
Mental health isn't being happy. As a matter of fact, the belief that happiness is a rational goal can drive people to depression because a natural state isn't happiness is it temporary homeostasis. Life is a constant swing from event to event with periods of quiescent in between. If you can cope with whatever is happening, you are sufficiently mentally healthy to deal with life.
Mental health through mental illness is a spectrum not two points at opposite ends of a scale. One determinant is coping with positive and negative events with equal balance.
"Mental health" is not a label of any importance. It is a projection of those who fear mental illness who give themselves a "healthy" label and ignore the fact that the so-called mentally ill are often people who function in some realms better than they do.
"Mental illness" is not a label that I would take lightly. It often refers to conditions that are treatable by professionals with the skills to treat them. Don't wallow in the fact that someone is different and maintains that difference even if it costs her ability to function.
Yeah, that is the magic word, FUNCTION, which is the only read divider. Unhappiness? So what? Get over yourself! Nobody ever promised happiness as part of the contract with the world you got at your birth.
Thinking nothing but sweet, healthy thoughts? Name me the person who thought sweet and healthy thoughts and I will show you someone with footprints all over his or her back where people walked right over them.
I would not agree that there is no such thing as mental health. I would simply use a different set of criteria to judge it.
* Are you able to recover from the shock of defeats and move on with tour life?
* Can you replace losses with something like new job, new wife or husband, new interests?
* Do you accept people for what they are but maintain a healthy ability to keep away those people who would drain you of energy? Space has all the black holes it needs and learn from them that they suck up anything in their path. There are human "black holes" out there that will suck you dry no matter how much energy you pump into them.
Understand that conditions are treatable, attitudes are not. You determine your attitudes while a power greater than us determine our brain waves, synapses and serotonin levels.
