Homeopathic Calendula and its uses
This article on homeopathic calendula is not an advertisement of any kind but I am sharing my experience with you. I don't want to sell any product but want to provide some useful information to all of you and that's why I decided to write this article.
Calendula is the most effective in case of any kind of wound or skin cuts. The botanical name of calendula is Calendula Officinalis and common name is Marigold. Calendula is annual plant which has yellow flowers and alternate leaves. This plant has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory properties and promotes healing. Hence it is called as anti-septic healing medicine.
Calendula is the most widely used medicine in Homeopathy. You can use it internally in the form of liquid or externally in the form of ointment. I think every first aid kit should have the calendula ointment. It is most commonly used in skin cuts - deep or superficial, lacerated wound, skin abrasions, burns, scalds, dry and chapped skin.
Uses of Calendula
- Calendula is useful in simple skin cuts by knife while cutting vegetables, skin wounds in children while playing.
- Useful after the surgeries - Most of the surgeons use calendula for dressing the wounds. Surgeons use it after the surgeries like appendix, kidney surgeries, normal deliveries or cesarean delivery, bone surgeries, etc. It is useful after any kind of surgeries where the externally stitches are given.
- Burns and scalds - It is helpful not only in injuries but also in burns and scalds. Burns can be due minor burn from match sticks major burn from gas leakage. Useful in scalds due to putting your hand unknowingly in very hot water and then the skin gets scalded or for women where the skin gets scalded while preparing food.
- Dry chapped skin - If your skin is too dry especially in winter where skin cracks due to dryness use calendula , you will get amazing results in just couple of days.
- Other uses- Calendula herbal tea, mouthwash, soaps, etc are available which can be useful too.
- The ointment doesn't cause burning or itching of skin, instead it has soothing effect on skin.
How to use calendula?
It's very simple to use calendula. Usually it is available in any homeopathic pharmacy in the form of liquid and ointment. Most commonly ointment is used externally but liquid can also be used internally.
- If there is a bleeding, first clean the wound with plain tap water and apply calendula ointment in the wound and leave it open. If you know how to do the dressing then you can do it, otherwise leave it open it will promote healing. No need to rub on the skin. Apply lightly.
- If liquid form of calendula is available then take the 5 to 10 drops of liquid in a half glass of warm water and drink it twice a day till wound starts healing.
- If the stitches are present then apply small amount of ointment on the stitches lightly and cover it with dressing. Use this ointment until the wound gets completely healed.
- You can use it in the same way as we use other skin creams like soframycin or neosporine on betadine.
Side-effects of Calendula
Fortunately there are no side-effects of calendula on human body. It is very safe medicine. Do not take calendula internally if you are pregnant. There are no evidence of any harmful effect of calendula in pregnancy but it is always better to avoid it internally during pregnancy.
The rate is very affordable and easily available then why not to try calendula and see its amazing effects. It is available in all homeopathic stores. It is cheaper than other chemical ointments.
