LYRE

Lyre, is  a stringed musical instrument, where the  two arms jut out on one side of the instrument's body and at their tips support a yoke or crossbar to which gut strings are attached. The strings run to the body, across the belly or soundboard, over a bridge, and to a stringholder at the lower end of the belly.

In the case of box lyres, the body and belly form a hollow wooden box adn the image of thebox lyre is shown below

But in the  bowl lyres, the body may be a tortoise shell or carved bowl, and the belly is usually of animal skin. Box lyres with asymetrical arms were known in ancient Sumeria by 2800 bc and this western Asian lyre was also played in ancient Egypt, as was a smaller symmetrical lyre. Lyres were extremely popular in Greece and were associated with the god ApolloTh epicture of the bowl lyres is shown below

Two main varieties were made. The kithara, played by professional musicians, was a box lyre with thick, symmetrical, hollow arms; it was plucked with a plectrum, or pick. The lyra, played by amateurs and plucked with the fingers, was a bowl lyre, typically a tortoise shell with a belly of bull's hide.

The kinnor of the ancient Hebrews, the instrument of King David, was like the kithara. In modern times similar lyres, with or without a bridge, are played in East Africa. They include the beganna, which was also like the kithara, and the lyra-like krar, both of Ethiopia. In African and ancient lyres the strings are wound around the crossbar and tightened by adjusting the windings or by inserting small wooden wedges in the windings.

The left-hand fingers are typically used to  damp the unwanted strings, while the right-hand fingers are used to sweep across all the strings, either directly or with a plectrum. In the Middle Ages box lyres were widely used in northern Europe until about ad 1000. These lyres usually had crossbars carved of the same piece of wood as the body and arms; they also had tuning pegs.

Until about 1000 they were plucked, but thereafter, bowing them was more common. Bowed lyres were able to survive into the 20th century in Finland and Estonia. In Wales, the crwth, which had a fingerboard running from the crossbar to the body, was played till the  19th century

Indian classical music...................

No comments on “Indian classical music...................”

The origins of Indian classical music can be found from the oldest of scriptures, part of the Hindu tradition, the Vedas. It is also significantly influenced by Persian music.
The Samaveda, one of the four Vedas, describes music at length. The Samaveda was created out of Rigveda so that its hymns could be sung as Samagana; this style evolved into jatis and eventually into ragas. Indian classical music has its origins as a meditation tool for attaining self realization. All different forms of these melodies (ragas) are believed to affect various "chakras" (energy centers, or "moods") in the path of the Kundalini. However, there is little mention of these esoteric beliefs in Bharat's Natyashastra, the first treatise laying down the fundamental principles of drama, dance and music.
Indian classical music has one of the most complex and complete musical systems ever developed. Like Western classical music.
it divides the octave into 12 semitones of which the 7 basic notes are
(Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa,)
in order, replacing Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do. However, it uses the just intonation tuning (unlike most modern Western classical music which uses the equal temperament tuning system).
Indian classical music is monophonic in nature and based around a single melody line which is played over a fixed drone. The performance is based melodically on particular ragas and rhythmically on talas.

The album "Thriller" was released. It was Super Duper Hit world wide. All the singles were mostly appreciated by critics. Jackson had a time of his life. When Jackson passed away on July 25th in Neverland Ranch - he was 50. The sudden demise was due to a heart attack, initially reported. Then he  was allegedly murdered and was declared as a Homicide. The First phase of Jacko's life was - The best way one can ever live. Second phase was much disastrous though. Lots of controversies surrounding Jackson's appearance , voice , drug abuse and child abduction. Still he was relieved out of a few cases, it still remained to be a black mark. The voice of Jacko Wacko still rings in the hearts and minds of his beloved fans. He was controversial but completely down-to-earth. One personally feels that Jackson was never a guy with such an instinct. Though Jackson left for heavenly abode.. he still lives in the hearts of his fans and rules the world as the "KING OF POP"!! Adieu

A wreath on my dreams

My dreams are dead like a silent street

Silence of dream;daunting my heart

On those days i thought my dreams

.Will bloom like a bouquet of flowers.

But now i am rowing in the vast ocean

of my lifeless,worthless dead dreams.

Now i realize what dreams are;it is

that which makes man to stand at the

                                                                 -verge of death

Dreams are like a flower as it blooms like

a bird kid and show their heavinly pride but

they didnt think that they have to die,Someday

Likewise dreams are like a worthless bunch

of waste having ,no mercy on human.

Nones dream come to an end pridely as they

Are like human wish, human wish hopes

for a rain to its dry heart, but when the

rain falls down it never stops

Now if anyone asks me "what is your great dream?"

I will answer "it is that i wouldnt like to have

                                                                           -any dream"!

My answer may hurt the narrators soul

but my soul know what will be end of

                                                                 -a dream.

And i also know that my dream that is the condition of

Not having any dream is also a dream that will not get

                                                                                -fullfilled

In the past,present or future.

As i am a human,a son of almighty should have to bear

The fate drown in the POISONOUS  lake of dreams.
