Introduction
Civil Services Exam is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). It is known as the "Mother of all Exams". There will be three stages in this Exam:
1) Preliminary
2) Main
3) Interview
The minimum Education qualification to give the Preliminary exam is a Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a recognised University. In general category, the age limit is 21-30. A candidate can give 4 attempts to this exam.
Exam Pattern
Preliminary: Preliminary is a kind of qualifying exam. Only the candidates who cleared the preliminary exam can be called for the Main Exam. There will be 2 papers for Preliminary exams. General studies and Optional. In General Studies there will be total 150 Questions and each carry 1 mark. There are 23 subjects in which a candidate can opt for Preliminary Optional paper. Totally there will be 120 questions for Optional papers. Each questions carry 2.5 marks. Total Marks for Preliminary exam is 450(150+300).
Main: There are total 9 papers for the Civil Service Main exams.
Paper 1: Indian language
Paper 2: English
Paper 3: Essay
Paper 4: General Studies Paper 1
Paper 5: General Studies Paper 2
Paper 6: First Optional Paper 1
Paper 7: First Optional Paper 2
Paper 8: Second Optional Paper 1
Paper 9: Second Optional Paper 2
Interview: The interview carries 250 marks. The board tries to test whether he or she have the excellence to be a the Civil Servant. The interview is conducted by a board. The board are generally come across to the candidate's knowledge about the Optional which he / she choosed for the exams, their general awareness and their presence of mind.
