Steve Biddulph, a famous author of educating children material admirably sums up the situation of men when he said, "masculinity worldwide -is like the lack of experience and at risk of a hand, care and stability of the other." Men, when they do well is wonderful. But young men are so vulnerable and so exposed to disasters.
More than half of college graduates are women(budding mothers). So much has been done recently for girls, but still pshycologically their children were left behind. Problems arise when parents and teachers do not understand the fundamental differences between boys and girls, and so do not recognize what is really happening in the lives of their children and what role they should play.
It is much easier for a mother to understand her daughter - after all, she is a woman and was once a little girl and the girl. But it is different for mothers and son. A brother may help explain some things, but it does not create a complete understanding of what being a boy - the wonder, endless energy, enthusiasm, vulnerabilities, and a single wave of testosterone.
Differences in boys and girls are wierd. They are inherent and not a social construct. The brains of men affect how boys see, hear, feel, learn, play, interact, socialize and listen ... the list is endless. It therefore has implications for how to teach, parent, motivation, understand and discipline boys.
In his groundbreaking book, Dr. Leonard Sax detailing the intrinsic growth evidence shows about the continent partition function in the brains of men: the left brain of a man is important for language, while right hemisphere of the brain of men have a spatial function over the verbally oriented left brain.
Furthermore, research shows that the proteins encoded directly with the Y chromosome, which are so rich in many parts of the male brain are completely absent in the tissues of the female brain. Women also have higher rates of brain per gram of brain tissue than men. In critical brain areas, women have more brain cells that receive more attention than the equivalent regions of the male brain. And in many tasks, brain imaging studies show that women who use the most advanced area of the brain - the cerebral cortex - men, while doing the same job with less sophisticated areas such as the amygdala and hippocampus.
When we talk about differences, we talk about that. They are different - not better, not worse. Dr. Sax uses the example of whether a spoon or a knife is preferable to eat your dinner? Well, it depends on what's for dinner. A spoon is preferable to eating soup where a knife is useless, and a knife, are essential for cutting steak, then a spoonful would be of some help. There is no difference in what boys and girls can do, but are important differences lie in how best to teach them.
It is therefore essential that parents and teachers understand what the brains of men are good for us to maximize the talent. It is also essential to understand their weaknesses so that we can save the useless struggle and find other ways for them to get the best results, using an approach that works well for the male brain.
